Is HBC safe to use on Wii U

Post by manic.blood » Tue Jan 07, 2014 7:56 pm

I've heard that Homebrew Channel runs in vWii mode on the Wii U.
Personally I haven't installed it yet because I fear
Ninty may bring out a System Update and brick my nice new console

Is there any threat and what can we do about it???

Nintendo isn't going to brick your Wii U. At most they'll try to delete the Homebrew Channel and block its installation.
Hardware: Wii (PAL)
Hardware configuration: System Menu 4.1E, Priiloader
Swiss boot method: Modified Wii Swiss Booter provided by Extrems
Software medium: Retail discs

I use it too, can't imagine Nintendo will release another system update at this point.

Is there any major benefit of hacking vWii if you have the last gen Wii already fully modded?

I can't think of anything except the use of hdmi and the gamepad as an external display.

In theory the wifi is a little bit faster but in practice it seems to be more unstable (more disconnects). The bluetooth also seems pretty dodgy (wiimotes taking multiple attempts to connect).

Too right, tueidj. It's taken us several attempts to connect Wiimotes for SMWorld and vWii mode

Concerning the Wii u future tho I saw a very interesting video claiming that when 3DS needed more sales
Ninty got to building more games for it and encouraged more third party development
I believe same thing will happen with with Wii U, 2014 is to be its year!! :)
