Gamecube Jewel Restoration Guide

Post by s8n187 » Sat Aug 13, 2022 8:04 am

hi members emukidid and extrems , I was browsing for a guide about a year ago on how to remove scratches from my Gamecube Jewels.

I did find one from Galaxy_Uploadz on Reddit.....I have expanded on it to make the process quicker and a better finish. It's still not 100% perfect , as there are some micro scratches but it's better than before.

OK here goes.......

Items you need with links below......

-x1 Polishing ball medium
-x1 Polishing ball soft
-Meguiars Ultimate Compound
-x1 sheet of 2000 grit sandpaper (don't go over or under 2000)
-x1 good quality Microfibre Cloth
-x1 Cordless Drill
-x1 spray pump bottle with water in it

Method.......

1. Sand the surface of the Jewel with 2000 grit in a sink with soapy water , start at the outer edge of the Jewel and sand in circular motions. Go all the way around till the deeper scratches aren't visible any more.

2. Secure down the Jewel to something and prepare for buffing. Attach medium Ball to Drill and apply a decent wide amount of Meguiars.

3. Next start buffing in circular motions going on the one spot for about 3 seconds then move to the next part of the Jewel. It's easy to miss the outer edges so try and focus and buff it.

4. It should take about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes per buff. Next simply change to the soft ball with Meguiars. When done spray some water on the Jewel and carefully rub off the compound. A good Microfibre won't reintroduce scratches , so keep that in mind.

Only thing to note is to not polish the sticker jewel and only polish the jewel that is a thick plastic piece that actually pops out.
