NinjaMod

Post by emu_kidid » Wed Oct 03, 2012 1:59 am

Background:
NinjaMod was a rip off of the original tmbinc IPL replacement. It was poorly manufactured and known to have a high failure rate.
It used GCOS 1.4 with a modified background image and modified menu layout - which was later expanded on by paying a developer to add in ISO9660 browsing support to keep up with other IPL replacement features of the time. No source was released even though the NinjaMod was sold with GPL code flashed on it.

Feature List:
* Direct No-Swap Boot of All Media
* Support for all regions (PAL, USA and Japan).
* 16Mbit flash memory for application storage.
* DVD +-R Compatible
* Create Backups to PC via network connection (Requires BBA adapter)
* Boot Homebrew via network connection (Requires BBA adapter)
* Supports BIOS Update via DVD or via network connection (Requires BBA adapter)
* Only 7 wires to solder
* Includes 2 different BIOS Banks ( Bank 1 = Ninja Shell, Bank 2 = User Programmable )
* Based on tmbinc's IPL replacement with modified GCOS as base (no GPL code released, shame on them... )

Ninja Shell Versions:
* 1.01 (Correct bug making ISO in Backup)
* 1.02 NONSWAP DVD-R ,Autoboot Enabled for BIOS 1,New Look,AutoVideoMode *FIXED*
* 1.02 NONSWAP DVD-R ,Autoboot Disabled for BIOS 2,New Look
* 1.4 NONSWAP DVD-R/DVD+R ,Autoboot Enabled for BIOS 1,IP RTime,Video RTime
* 1.4 NONSWAP DVD-R/DVD+R ,Autoboot Disabled for BIOS 2,IP RTime,Video RTime
* 2.0 NONSWAP DVD-R/DVD+R ,AudioFix,Multigames,NO DRE,IP RTime,Video RTime
* 2.0 'Players' NONSWAP DVD-R/DVD+R ,No Menu,Autorun BACKUP ,Audiofix,Multigames,NO DRE
* 2.02 NONSWAP DVD-R/DVD+R ,AudioFix,Multigames,NO DRE,DVDLOADER,IP RTime,Video RTime,*ESPA袿L*
* 2.03 NONSWAP DVD-R/DVD+R ,AudioFix,Multigames,NO DRE,DVDLOADER,IP RTime,Video RTime,PAL/NTSC,Big Font
* 2.1 NONSWAP DVD-R/DVD+R ,AudioFix,Multigames,NO DRE,DVDLOADER,IP RTime,Video RTime,PAL/NTSC,Big Font,MemCard Manager,GCOM 2.3,GCOS 1.5,SDLOADER

Hi guys,

Sorry for bumping this thread up, I kinda have the feeling there is some salty feelings behind this.

But it got me really intrigued, what is this tmbinc IPL replacement/mod chip? I tried searching around and there doesn't seem to be any documentation of it.

Can someone possibly enlighten me perhaps? :)

Yes there were salty feelings behind this that I still have to this day. It's a tmbinc modchip clone.

It was bad quality and they used GCOS (with minor UI changes) on it without any permission. It's the same as trying to release a mod now with Swiss on it as the main bios and claiming it's yours :P

Thanks very much for the response emu_kidid, that was quite informative indeed!

As I've stated before, I tried searching around and there doesn't seem to be any documentation of this tmbinc mod chip. Might someone enlighten me? Or Pics of it by any chance? :)

Okay, will do for that topic.

However, just a quick question for this chip, do you know if it's like the Qoob where it is using an ASIC chip, enabling it to be encrypted? Or is it completely open for tinkering?

It had some form of obfuscation and a check at boot time, but it was easily reversed and someone kept leaking the bios in .dol format.

Ohhh right, so it wasn't like an ASIC fortress I suppose :D

Therefore was it just a standard flash chip on a board? And was it flashable compared to the later chips perhaps??

Greatest apologies for bringing this sour topic up again after almost 2 years later, but I was wondering, does anyone know where this chip can be obtained by any chance?

I had a bag of these back in 2007 but I'm pretty sure I threw them out, I'll have a look if there's any in my collection.

Sorry for just getting back now!

But that's a shame that you had a bag of these, whatever made you want to throw them out?? :(

Either way, did you manage to find any in your collection by any chance? 🙏

The fact that they're shit might be a good reason for that.

They never arrived because i blocked you. I lifted that yesterday as i was in a good mood so you might want to try again.
I don't know why i blocked you last time but i remember it being very annoying - as i had everything packed up and ready to ship...

Ahh okay then, well I'm glad you're in a good mood now.

I will reach out to you again now. :)

@emu_kidd Have you had any luck with those modchips by any chance? 🙏

Seems they were all scrapped, like I said maybe 2 out of the 20 I tried worked, they were complete garbage, there were about 40 in the bag, no ESD protection at all

Ahhh man, that's such a shame :(

If only they added ESD then they'll all be alive still! :D

What happened to the 2 working units out of the 20? Don't tell me they got the bullet too :'(

@liquitt My hopes are resting on you now my friend 🙏
