Re: GameCube 2 Concept
I Really don't think so, its built for gaming not windows run pc apps ect..megalomaniac wrote:a little misleading by the name dont you think?

PC-in-a-GC <<--- i like that
why ? because its suppose to be the 2nd GameCube
PC in a GC sounds complicated.
this is based on today's gen game systems they are built more like a PC then previous Systems (PS3 & Xbox)

Because it is just a PC inside of a GC case.

Re: GameCube 2 Concept
Looks good to me. I guess the last part is optical audio output. I would replace the 3.5 sata with 2.5 (2 if there's room) and ideally ssd depending on cost constraint. i would replace at least one USB with an eSata, or something else like that for backup to external storage. I keep an open mind on the CPU/GPU, but make sure it has big cooling vents and fan so it's quiet. The original GameCube was a PowerPC wasn't it? Let's stay with RISC.

Re: GameCube 2 Concept
Wow, are you planning to squeeze this inside the current GC casing, good luck
Very ambitious design, keep it up

Re: GameCube 2 Concept
so what mobo are you gonna fit in there? a mITX one is 17x17cm and I doubt it can fin in ta gc case... some android-based system perhaps?
Re: GameCube 2 Concept
If you think a pc in a gamecube game is ambitious you should see the PC that was put inside the Halo 3 Master Chief Helmet.
Re: GameCube 2 Concept
I'm not gonna make this, never said i was going to. this is based on the PS4's components with minor changes.
this just a concept i thought of, i have no idea if its even possible to fit in a GameCube case, a bigger one no doubt.
a 2.5" Hdd yeah i thought of that, but they don't go up as high in storage as 3.5" and that's why i chose 3.5" Hdd

Hey, no bashing his idea (even if it's not possible), after all it was just a concept.keropi wrote:^ so this thread is about a drawing with mockup "specs" about a "concept" that is just a random thought...

since we are discussing a "concept", how is keropi bashing?
wouldn't that statement be considered his "concept" of the "concept"

Re: GameCube 2 Concept
To be fair to GC2 he was just sharing an idea he had, he didn't deserve that kind of corrosive response.
Re: GameCube 2 Concept
Getting back to the original topic... I like the idea, bad name aside. I like PC-in-a-GC for a name if someone actually wanted to hack something like this together. I agree that it would be hard to fit everything in there. Even if you did, heat would be an issue I'm sure. You could fit a Raspberry Pi in their quite easily but you wouldn't get the power of a newer, beastly processor. People put Raspberry Pis in NES's all the time though. They look cool and they use them to function as an emulator. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years there was some Raspberry Pi^2 that could almost handle emulating GC games.
Re: GameCube 2 Concept
I like GameCube 2. The original GameCube has an IBM PowerPC CPU inside it which is very PC like already. It makes sense to use USB ports for the game controllers so that the new WiiU wired controllers can be used. As for cooling, newer processors are designed to use less power, and cooling technology is becoming more compact.ratster wrote:I like the idea, bad name aside. I like PC-in-a-GC for a name
Re: GameCube 2 Concept
yeah lets see how Nintendo would sell a game system called " PC-in-a-GC"
get the all new Personal Computer in a GameCube here !!
uh yeah that would sell.... NOT !

To clarify, I wasn't taking a shot at you. I just found humor in how this thread panned out is all.Radirgy wrote:To be fair to GC2 he was just sharing an idea he had, he didn't deserve that kind of corrosive response.
I think that like me, most assumed the gamecube 2 concept to be an actual project idea. It's fine that it's just an 'in theory' mockup.
As far as a name that sells? They probably considered gamecube 2, but obviously went with wii.

Re: GameCube 2 Concept
I think currently the smallest "PC" motherboards are mini-ITX/mobile-ITX.
You might be able to fit a PC in that. You'd have to custom fabricate a lot of things like the mounts for USB ports and such. I think mini-ITX still requires a standard ATX PSU unit (or a small version of it). You would most definitely have to make that external as you'd never fit that in with the GameCube with everything else.
If you pull apart a laptop optical drive and rig a motorized mechanism to the lid button, you could in theory also have a working optical drive on it that opens the lid by itself.
Looks like they even have PC motherboards in even smaller form factors:
From Wikipedia:
ITX Formfactors
If you are feeling even more brave you can go with the smaller form factors like nano-itx/mobile-itx.
BUT here's the thing, those tiny mobo's leave little room for a decent video card. So good luck getting Dolphin to run well on this. It may work as a decent PC, but as a GameCube emulator? (which is really the whole point of doing this right?) It may not be up to snuff.
mini-ITX I think is currently the smallest mobo that would still have a PCI or PCI-E slot on it. If you can't get a mini-ITX to fit in the gamecube case, then you'll have little hope of having a Dolphin Emulator capable PC crammed into that tiny case. Unless you are either rich as all **** or have connections with a large company and can custom fabricate the entire motherboard. Best of luck to anyone who attempts this.
Another idea is to instead build it as an Android machine. You'd have to find and pull apart a smartphone and have it put inside the GC case. It wouldn't run Windows like normal PCs, but as I understand they are now working having Dolphin run on Android phones and thus you can instead build an Android machine to run it on instead. The x86 hardware architecture doesn't lend well to be crammed into a small device and still be as powerful as it's larger counterparts. Arm based hardware like smartphones would be better suited for something like this.

Re: GameCube 2 Concept
Maybe a raiser card would also help to lift the Graphiccard and then you can mount it horizontal...
