How to Cut a controller?

How to Cut a controller?

I don't really now how to explain this very well. Here's a pic I found

The Left Analog stick and the D-pad are on one side of the screen, and the C-Stick and Buttons are on the right side, very far apart from eachother. So obviously the controller had to be "cut" apart and wired back again to reach that far. How is this done? I really can't find this anywhere. And I'm still a beginner, so bear with me please.
