MegaDrive v5 + WODE
Hi,
I've installed the MegaDrive v5 to use WODE on my GC. But I receive an error message - An error has occurred - when I turn on my system.
All the solder connections between the MD and the MB appear to be OK and I've just put an wire jumping the lid switch.
Any ideas?

Re: MegaDrive v5 + WODE
I had to use pins/wire for all the points of the megadrive 5 then it worked great. I had somewhat the same problem. Just heat the point with the iron then push a bare wire/pin though the megadrive into the mobo. Do that for all the points then turn it on and see what happensfwannmacher wrote:Hi,

I've not soldered it directly to the board. So I've already used wires to solder the MegaDrive to the MB.

Re: MegaDrive v5 + WODE
Another weird thing on my hardware modding trip...
I've connected the DVD drive to WODE and everything works like a charm, instead a really weird thing: when I connect the controller my testing game (Eternal Darkness) doesn't work :-/
If I start the system in flat mode and without controllers, everything works great. But, if I connect a controller then the game freezes after the opening poem.
Any ideias? I've double-checked the wires and everything is ok this time.

Re: MegaDrive v5 + WODE
are you trying to play eternal darkness from DVD or wode internal drive?
also are you using a Wii drive or GC drive?

When I play it without the controller, the second led from the WODE slave board stops after the poem, then starts again and the game works. But, with the controller, the second led stills blinking and the game freezes after the poem.

Re: MegaDrive v5 + WODE
I believe that could be a power issue. The controller ports are using the 5v supply as the DVD drive and the WODE slave baord.
I'm really lost here :-/

Re: MegaDrive v5 + WODE
power is not a problem as ive already successfully verified WODE + DVD drive
with wode this should not be a problem to play audio streaming titles in flatmode as is allows FULL passthru unlike WKF/WASP....
double check your soldering on the mainboard / V5...pin 1, 3, or 5
also, Wii drive or GC drive?

I'll take a look into the connection.

Everything appears to be ok.
Two questions:
1) Do I have to use wires of the same size for the audio stream connections?
2) Is a problem to use a long cable between the dvd drive and the wode? (I'm using a cable with the same size of the wode slave board cable)

Re: MegaDrive v5 + WODE
After some more tests I've got the following results:
- Games without audio streaming (like Gun) work great from DVD.
- Eternal Darkness doesn't work from HDD too.
So, I'll check again the connections between the mother board and the v5.

Eternal Darkness and any other audio streaming title will not work from SD, USB, HDD
only playback from DVD will work with audio streaming titles

I thought those games could be played, but without sound...
Anyway, I'll check the wires again to check if everything is really ok

Re: MegaDrive v5 + WODE
check wode settings, not MEGAdrive
refer to any wode instructions found on the internet to determine settings to use for your region

I believe the wode settings are ok, because regular games (without audio streaming) work great both via dvd drive (flat mode) or via hdd.

Re: MegaDrive v5 + WODE
I've remade all the connections between the MDv5 and the motherboard. And I've also remade the connections between the drive board and the flat connector. But I still can't run games like Eternal Darkness.
There is a length limitation? The wires have about 2" and the flat cable is the one that is used to connect the wode and the slave board.

I've made some tests with a multimeter and there is no resistance between the solder point and the flat cable end.

Re: MegaDrive v5 + WODE
how is the DVD drive connected to the GC?
did you plug in the dvd drive to the normal GC port or did you connect the DVD drive to wode?

Here is my setup.

I can play games without audio streaming from a DVD flawlessly, but I can't play games with audio streaming.

Re: MegaDrive v5 + WODE
its got to be a wode setting or firmware or something within the wode blocking the signal...
try not to make a mess of these instructions below:
remember GC has pins 1,3,5 which are different from Wii / Wode pins 1,3,5
you are basically bypassing wode audiostreaming and reconnecting the DVD drive pins directly back to the GC mainboard...
dont worry about wire length...about 15cm is fine to use for this test
try not to make a mess of these instructions below:
Code: Select all
from the Mainboard to MEGAdrive, desolder your wires for pins 1,3,5
then from the DVD drive, solder pins 1,3,5 directly to the Mainboard

Could I solder wires between the wode host/dvd connectors instead of desolder the wires?

Re: MegaDrive v5 + WODE
hmmm...i also see you also have a xeno
so i recommend testing with original disc unless you are using a new cleanrip backup
...if you are using a backup which might have been previously prepatched with an older version of swiss or any other tools, then that could also be the issue....
to rule out any possibilities its safer to use the original disc until all other issues are worked out...
wode passes ALL audio streaming data in flatmode
ive only confirmed this with wode firmware 2.8A, if i did ever test another firmware i did not document so i default to my known documentation
the problem i currently see is there has to be a wiring issue on the audio streaming signals...
since it appears to be a wiring issue, first test audio streaming exactly as i have indicated by bypassing those 3 signals and soldering the 3 signals from the DVD drive directly to the mainboard...
once you do that, and once you can confirm audio streaming works, then next steps will be to isolate where the break could be...
