After me and a friend of mine finished my purple cube and his similar black/white cube, we started our next project: an orange cube.
This cube (unlike the other two) has no DVD drives, but black plastic where the drive would be. There you can find the WiiKey Fusion SD slot, pin 29 and LID switch. It also has a MEGA3 installed, along with an audio jack for analogue audio (for headphones or for use with an adapter to get audio when using a component cable). The switch on the back is for switching between VGA and component signal.

I found an old Intec screen in my collection that produced a very crappy picture, so I took everything out of it (except for the speakers) and added a new display, audio amp, VGA input on the back and some switches:
- green is source (composite from the AV out and VGA)
- red is power
- blue is menu
- the white switches are + and - in the menu
- the switch on the right of the screen is for muting audio
- the knob in the middle is for the volume

The new display is not the best (but better than the photos are indicating) but accepts interlaced signals via VGA. This produces the best results, because progressive signal produces vertical lines (like many VGA displays on the cube).

Here's my cube with a led triforce, spindle replacement thing. I carved it out of a PS2 box, sanded and painted silver. Injected hot glue through the back of the triangles onto a flat surface to make the diffusers. Then covered everything in a thick clear coat. The led array connects to 3v on the Megadrive. Along with the normal wiikey and sd card reader stuff it all worked out pretty good.

chose this one, since it was spotless - it was still in o-box.
also, black...

added GBA adapter and pot tweaked recently.
have two wavebirds (wife/me)
was using SDML+SWISS to load games, but had issues with some cards (swiss280 booted into a blank screen, only had 1GB at that moment)
rather boot my old backups than have my wife wait on me to find other SD cards.

EDIT: Finally done with my paintjob and wanted to share it with you guys!
A few years back I stumbled upon a youtube video showing of a glossy cube and allthough I generally dislike glossy products I decided to do my own.

So glad they are done. Required the utmost precision with sanding, and an unhealthy amount of patience. Would not have started this project if I knew what I was getting myself into. Photos hide some imperfections and there are still very tiny scratches in a few spots that I need to polish out, but in the end, quite happy with the results. The black one also needs to be cleaned still, especially the vents, and also need to glue the stickers firmly back on for all 5.

The following 3 cubes I decided to paint in between, and are all matte, so no wet-sanding, clear cote, and polishing or anything like that thankfully . Colours are blue, green and red

Lastly, the grey I have used sadly doesn't quite match the original, but it came as close as I thought I could with RAL colour-index. However, I think the end result looks quite nice and the lighter grey gives it a nice contrast with the red/blue/green cubes.

Thanks guys. Still need to clean a few things, like the vent hole of the black cube. Also remove some tiny scratches and glue them stickers firmly back on, they really bother me haha!

Hi everyone. Long time lurker here. Loving all the awesome cubes on here.

I'm not really all that good at posting on forums.. I feel like I have to edit my posts a thousand times, so sorry if I don't make sense, lol. Anyway, I finally got some pictures of the gamecube that I've been working on and wanted to post it.

I think I'm going to have to move my pin 29 switch eventually because I have it setup to where you can push it by lightly pressing down on the area behind the sd card slot, and in order to use it the lid has to be open. I'm not sure it even works right having it this way and I honestly haven't even really tested it. I was trying to have it hidden.

Really wish the pictures would have turned out better... I need better lighting in here. Really hard to capture LED light without making it look super mega bright.














I might change the controller indicator color, the green seems out of place to me. I was originally going to use white LEDs for this, but I felt like green stood out more.

That is a nice colour red, it looks beautiful. I normally don't like overdone leds, but these orange ones on the controller ports look very nice.

Sorry it took me so long to reply. Thanks, I worked my ass off on this cube, glad you guys like it. Also the etched adaptor has it's own power regulator for the wasp, so I didn't have to tap into the 3.3v on the motherboard. I made 2 of these, the other one doesn't have the large ground wire and makes all it's connections through the ffc connector. Not as cool as the megadrive, but I'm proud of it, lol.

Anyway, to tell the truth the orange LEDs are still on when a controller is plugged in. I used switches that I harvested from a couple dead cd-rom drives to turn the green ones on, and they drown out the orange completely. My original plan was to use some 3 pin micro switches, that way the orange LED would shut off and the green LED would turn on. But I only found 2 in my parts drawers.. And instead of ordering some, I just used regular on/off detector switches out of a cd-rom drive, and made the orange LEDs stay on.. Anyway I removed the metal pieces that are in the top part of the controller ports, and mounted the switches in their place using some jb weld. It's kind of hard to explain the wiring details, but it is actually very simple. Here's a closer picture inside the controller port to give you an idea how it works.



I did finally order some 3 pin micro switches to do another one using blue and white LEDs. I've already started on it, and it works but the switches are a little bigger and I'm having problems with them hanging up on the controller plugs. I just haven't felt like trying to figure it out. I think I can just file the edge of the switch down some and fix it, but that would require me to remove the switches. Which wouldn't be a big deal if I didn't already jb weld them in... next time I'll test with hot glue.
