I have one 128MB 3rd party (no-name) one from aliexpress and it works fine.
Back to the topic, they should be safe but really, I wouldn't risk. It's better to buy few 64/128MBs so You can have a backup. And yeah, the casing is awesome.
Owned consoles:

Soon or later - depending on the quality - the switch will stop working and you can't access the other banks anymore. (Unless a new switch gets soldered on.)
A normal 128 mb memory card seems more than enough. Works great for me.

Own a couple PAL and JPN cubes. And three BBAs. Homeland and PSO I/II.
