Transfered my megadrive from my PAL cube to a NTSC (the PAL cube was missing ports, making it into a portable) and I have come across a problem; I cant use the disc drive through the wiikey, but I can use the disc drive directly if I remove the SD card from the wiikey. I just can't go through a menu to get it to work this doesn't work with my Firmware 1.0 or my WKF ON swiss 3.0 I got from mega
I added a Xeno GC to the disc drive today, which I have been able to boot PAL Viewtful Joe directly with it.

Just tried with a second disc drive I had around; still wont work once swiss is open. Silly thing is I can play PAL games in full colour from the disc without holding Y when they Xeno GC drive can't.
tried booting from the SD card and having the drive spin for compatability to see if I could get anything, wont even spin.

All of this will take a lot of time to play with and figure out the pattern on your own but the main thing to remember is the WKF will behave differently depending if you have WKF on / off in the configuration menu
original WKF firmware can be tricky and a pain in the ass if you are trying to start a DVD from within the original WKF menu...
firmware 1.4 & 1.5 are broken, these two versions are amazingly difficult to get successful WKF passthru...i dont remember if i ever got these working...
so if you are using original WKF firmware, i recommend 1.3
you will have to play around with removing the sd card and pin29 switch if you try to load from within the WKF menu...
if you are using swiss on flash for WKF passthru, i dont remember which version worked to correct the pasthru functions...then i think it might have broken and got fixed again...

wouldn't I loose autoboot if I upgraded to 1.3? this will be my home console so I'd like both.
emu_kidid wrote:should totally re-init if you try without a SD card in the WKF slot.
sorry I dont understand?
Edit: just got it; remove the SD card after Swiss launches; it works, would still rather not to have that step (maybe a different rev or swiss?) but at least the console is functional enough to put back together. Thanks!
megalomaniac wrote:that video was created before the discovery of 1.0 autoboot...
but the same rules i describe in v1.3 still apply to get DVD working...
So no need for the WKF switch to initialize? I'll try it in a bit! Thanks for the link.
I plan on using the WKF fimware and booting to swiss from their till I get things working, then I intend to install swiss
EDIT: unless not having swiss as the inital ISO stops it from being able to connect to the DVD drive, I didn't think of that.

swiss on flash make no difference in how a DVD is booted...
i am talking about direct boot..
direct boot - the immediate initialization of the DVD drive to read a disc at bootup..
swiss fully works, WKF firmware 1.3 and below fully works...
it took me a few hours of playing with WKF my first time to figure out how things all work together...
usually its just a learning curve of what needs to be done and how it all works together...
reference my videos...
i explain exactly all steps i am performing...
what i dont show is how it all works when in the swiss menu...
what you are describing about cleanrip working and not swiss sounds like an old swiss issue i also noticed when swiss did not yet support WKF dvd passthru...
ill take a look and see if i can throw together some quick instructions or something...

Swiss doesn't control whether or not the DVD drive can be reached in pass-thru mode. It's the WKF itself which says if the GC can talk to the drive and this only happens when there is no SD card in the WKF slot.

Thanks mega, I didn't realise you posted this before i figured it out for myself.
the trick was to update to rev249, both 174? and 217, would not let it happen. I now have my wiikey autobooting.
I think I'll transfer the DVD drive to a PAL cube when I get one, as I dont like how the XenoGC treats PAL games in a NTSC system, but this will do for now.
I now am just trying to work out multi disc games loading off an SD card, we're meant to have -disc1 and -disc2 at the end of the file names right? then open and close the disc drive?
I do appreciate all the help I've been given, thanks guys!

Yes but 2 disc stuff hasn't really been tested in a while and needs to be revisited. (it'll only work from SDGecko or DVD-R if anything at the moment)

not working at the moment, also as a complaint about the latest nightly build, it automatically loads the slot A memory card, instead of giving you the option to use slot B
