Digital Audio A Possibility For Portables?

Post by Voltz » Tue Jul 21, 2015 9:12 pm

If you know about the Gc video then you know that it has the capability
of providing digital audio through SPDIF cables.
So I wanted to know that if you get your GC video working with video in a portable then would
it be possible to fit digital audio into there as well using a digital audio amp?

What do you guys think?

Does it accept direct optical SPDIF input? Then yes it would work if not then you would have to use extra hardware to convert the SPDIF input to a coaxial output. You really don't need full digital sound for a portable maybe a output would be cool. That's a cool amp I might buy one thanks for the link

Your welcome, and yeah it does i was just wandering if i would all be able to fit inside a case and by the dimensions it seems as it would, also
I found out that digital audio can get rid of interference which is a positive thing if it were to be used in a portable.
And yeah it would be a pretty cool output port.

No point in putting that in a portable. Digital audio is only good when using a high quality audio system, you won't hear the difference on headphones let alone portable speakers.

not even converting the SPDIF to coaxial would work
you need another PCB to perform digital to analog conversion of the signals...(SPDIF to AUDIO L/R)
and depending on the build quality of both those PCBs you now have two possible causes for interference rather than just one PCB

also 20W ??
i hope you plan to have lots of battery capacity to run something like this....
just for reference, typically a car stereo is 20w per speaker

I was coming to change the link, i forgot that most portables use 2w or less.

Thanks for the replies guys, I was just wondering if this was possible and if so would it work for portables.
