Gamecube Component Cable

Since one of my (PAL) cubes has a digital out, I was wondering if getting a component cable might be an option for me. (I recently bought a new TV, where the analog is quite noticable..)
But, I noticed that they are quite expensive these days. (like, €50+ at least, without shipping)
So, are there any third party alternatives? And does the price justify it?
Also, as I have a PAL cube, and only NTSC games support 480p if I'm correct, will the output be fine when using a viper to load the games?
And at last: Anyone near Europe selling Gamecube compatible component cables for a reasonable price?

You should consider, the digital out, is not real digital
Do you have tried a real rgb-scart cable yet?

Correct component is analog, only NTSC games support 480p but you should be able to force pal games to output in 480p via modchip or software. Both Wii and GC cables are the same I think, gamestation and game sell third party ones, madcatz, datel and pelican accessories all do ones as well irc.

I myself use a real rgb-scart cable the quality is better over rca composite no bleeding colours or fuzzyness around text edges, but I wouldn't say it's a vast improvement not as dramatic as it is on the ps2 where composite just looks like turd.

And I'm researching about building a "housemade" cable, but that cable uses a analog/digital converter chip that can't find anywhere

I always thought the Wii used a completely different cable. Can't confirm it though. One of the connectors in the cable that kevstah showed does look like a gamecube connectors, but's it's probably too good to be true.
Anyway, the link you gave is really interesting, too bad that chip is also hard to find.

I bought my component cable for Gamecube from ebay for about $60 with shipping about six months ago. It was a bit expensive yes, but totally worth it. Well, I'm a quality freak so no matter the price it would be worth it for me.
Yes, component is analogue, but the quality is excellent. Also not all games support it, no PAL games does even though our Gamecubes had the output in the beginning. Many NTSC games support 480p. Also PAL cubes does not support S-Video at all which is a shame since it's much better than composite. RGB Scart was not an option for me, as I like to record my gaming sessions some times through my Hauppauge HD-PVR and upload to the internet. (HD-PVR takes in component)

By the way, here's some comparison pictures I took. First is Wind Waker PAL version. Next is Twilight Princess NTSC with 480p activated over component.
I have also posted a few videos on youtube, however youtube killed the bitrate so upscaling to 720p will be a better idea because then the bitrate is not ruining the video.

I truly wish Nintendo had produced more of these cables. (Just like the BBA's, which are also quite hard to find..)

That's correct. The GC cable is expensive because it has the special decoder chip built into the cable.

try to get the official gamecube component cable from nintendo.
they pop up on ebay.com/.co.uk etc. in good used condition for 50-70$
boxed/new ones for 70-90$
otherwise you could try to ask for one in known forums like assemblergames.

Only if you still have doubts: the GC component cable and Wii component cable aren't compatible, even the connector is different. Also, no homemade or alternative cable exist for GC because of the proprietary decoder chip included IN the official Nintendo GC component cable.
If you want it, you've got to pay, and a lot :S
Sincerely, I think that's cheaper to just play it on a computer if HD is what you want.

wolfsoft has the original nintendo one. there was never released any third party of the component cable in the past.
you wont be able to build it on your own. the cable for the gamecube has a chip inside (MX B012455) which scalles the signal to a high definition signal. the wii one is just a 1:1 connection and does this via software.

a question doesnt cost anything. so why not. i have just yesterday asked them if they still sell xbox 1 consoles with the v1.5 mainboard revision. but they only have mainboard revision v1.6 over.

My projector is YUV compatible (though it's a japanese model) so i could use the japanese cable too. Does someone know how to get that somewhere?

Nintendo used the same AV out connector on the SNES, the N64 and the Gamecube. This means that an RGB SCART cable for the SNES also works on the Gamecube. Well, in theory at least, since the consoles still have to output the signal themselves (the PAL N64 lacked RGB altogether, for example). On the Gamecube they came up with an additional Digital Out port with their own proprietary connector, separate from the AV Out. On the Wii, they got rid of both and introduced a new connector with pins on it for component output, that the original AV out lacked.

So the Digital port on a GC is different to the one on a Wii?
My official GC RGB-Scart cable connects to the Analog port on my GC.
Why they named it digital i'll never know since you can output dolby digital via rca.
