WIP: My "Portable" Gamecube

Background:
I've been working in my spare time on a "portable" Gamecube just for the fun of it.. of course this will not be even remotely as elegant as the Gamecube Fusion portable, but it is nice to mess around with Gamecube hardware.
Planned final specs:
9" DVD player 16:9 screen w/ Brightness adjust
Stereo Speakers w/ Volume adjust
Dual Stereo Headphone out
A/V Out
Gamecube DOL-001
2x Memory card ports
1 Controller port
Wiikey Fusion
Progress so far:
I've managed to get it working so far to the point that the bios will boot up and I can navigate around and use the memory cards/etc. It's quite rough in its current state and very work-in-progress. I've mangled a standard heatsink and have the stock fan for case ventilation but I will replace the stock heatsink with a trimmed 1cm heatsink (thanks Ashen!) + EeePc fan (2 fans, I know :p). At the moment it'll heat up too much to play it for more than 5 mins, so I'm waiting for the new fan and heat sink to arrive
To complete it I want to install a Wiikey Fusion somewhere and tidy up the casing (at the moment the screen is just taped down on top of the case.. so I'll put some border around the screen, and then finally, some plastic/vinyl decal around the back/side of the case where all the inputs/outputs are to show what does what as well as to mask the roughness of my novice dremel'ing :p
Credits:
Credits go out to everyone who has made/talked about portable Gamecubes, without them I wouldn't have been motivated to get this so far. Particularly: Ashen, zenloc, etc, you know who you are
Onto the pics!
Up and running:
Power LED:
Controller port and memory card ports:
Video out, dual head phone out, volume and brightness as well as the power connector:
Another shot:
Inside (screen on the right)
Controller port, LED and (temporary) heatsink:
Screen PCB:
All in one shot:
More pics to come when I finish this thing and get cooling sorted out!

It appears to be skipping even fields.
Not sure what's up with the scaling.

That is really awesome man! I love it! I think its really cool how we've united two different online communities here at gc-forever. I hope to see more stuff like this around here. Good job so far man.

Screen looks decent enough to me, not sure what you guys are talking about.
Anyway, what kind of casing is that you used to house everything in emu?

Based on the pictures above:
Do you think this is decent?

I'm still not sure I see what you're talking about or what you mean by "skipping even fields" . Do you just mean interlacing?

Extrems, I tried the screen before on various games, I found it acceptable so I've used it
Ashen, it was this case:

Installed a Qoob PRO in this yesterday when I found a few spare minutes, put it all together and played some Snes9xGX for a good hour - lots of fun.
Things I noticed.. the unit definitely needs some more cooling or better sense of airflow. I've also not put any form of DVD replacement yet so it's a little pointless as I've removed one of the main features of a gamecube

(but then again, I have so many - not that much harm done)

Gonna use a Qoob and a WKF together?
I've got that as my setup currently(it's neat), you should totally perform magic and like, come up with a modified qoob FW that will let it normally boot to the WKF, or better yet, swiss as a FW!
._.

emu_kidid wrote:Boot holding Y button

doesnt work for me. maybe its cause i am using a wavebird controller. or its cause my qoob pro isnt starting at every boot. I need several boots to get a screen.
edit 1: ok with a wired controller it works. but when I try to load an application from the memory of the cube I get a black screen which says: Initialise DVD from cold boot... (Qoob user?)
what does this mean?
edit 2: ok just was to fast. Now I have tried to boot swiss r62 from the qoob. That works without problem. But when I chooce the device I want to boot from the whole cube freezes. After that I tried it booting from the wode directly. This worked perfect. I selected the device I want to boot from, the list with my games from the wode appears, I selected a game and it ends up in a message which says something like; setting the wode. And it freezes again.
After that my wode didnt recognize any of my gamecube games so I hooked up the hdd to my PC and realized that the folder got damaged. My whole games are destroid. Now I need to reinstall every game.
Does anybody else had such an error?

Wode == DVD drive as far as swiss is concerned.

Hey, I was just wondering about how much it would cost to have a portable gamecube made for me and how much it would cost to make one myself. Is it worth the money?
