Weird gamecube problem

Uh, hi. Fairly new here, but check the site pretty frequently. Love that there are still so many people playing the gamecube as much as I do.
Anyway, a friend of mine gave me a gamecube a while back that's in pretty bad shape(cosmetically, looks clean on the inside), and it has this weird sound distortion going on.
Also, it will not boot games.. it will recognize them, but as soon as I press start in the menu it shows a black screen. Not the laser either, I've replaced the entire drive with one from a working gc and it does the same thing. Thought it might be tied in with whatever is causing the sound distortion. (IPL problem maybe?)
I kinda think it's beyond repair but wanted to see if anyone has seen this before. I uploaded a video on youtube just to show what I mean. I'm not too worried about fixing it, but I'm always up for trying to bring one back from the dead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5euS-2_GDK4 thanks
