"Testing" the Gameboy Player without disc

I have bought a Gameboy Player on eBay, and unfortunately, it wasn't well packaged at all and unsurprisingly got a nice big crack. While it sucks, I don't mind that much as long as it works...

... but the thing is, I don't know if it does. I don't currently own a Gameboy Player Disc and my Gamecube isn't modded, as I was planning to buy a GC-Loader PNP, which won't be shipping for a few months. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to claim anything from eBay by then, but I'd rather not go through the whole process now if I can.

So... do you guys know of any way to check if the Gameboy Player works with these constraints?

The original software is quite useless as GBI does it far better anyways.

Set up a game exploit to boot GBI off a memcard if you don't already have an SD adapter.
DMG/MultiFreq OC/EDGB/EZF Jr, AGB/SC miniSD, NTR/NeoMK3, USG/flashme V8/SC miniSD
DOL001(EUR)/RGB/GCPlug/GBP/SD2SP2, RVL 001(EUR)/RGB/CMP/WiiSD

Zelda WW with Tingle Tuner in split screen was what the GC RF modulator was made for! (Video)
