Re: Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
dumping with WKF was simple...
ill have to come back to this post and edit my comments because i dont remember exactly what steps were involved...but it was much more of a simple process compared to wode...
steps to dump a disc with WKF:
1. put disc to dump in drive (close lid)
2. put sd card with swiss.iso in WKF sd slot
3. put sd gecko with CleanRip into GC sd slot
4. power on GC and load Swiss from WKF menu
5. from Swiss go to SD slot and start CleanRip
6. continue with Clean Rip as usual (CleanRip will initialize the drive and motor will start)
dumping with WODE requires a specific process....here is what i have found out...
steps to dump a disc with WODE:
1. put disc to dump in drive (close lid)
2. put usb/hdd with swiss.iso in wode usb slot
3. put sd gecko with CleanRip into GC sd slot
4. power on GC and load swiss from usb/hdd
5. go to game play menu and start swiss
6. go to SD slot and start CleanRip
7. hit switch 29 for wode to eject swiss.iso (wode will indicate "ejecting iso)
8. navigate in wode to select flat mode (drive motor will not start, this is normal)
9. continue with Clean Rip as usual (CleanRip will initialize the drive and motor will start)
or if you wanna make things harder on yourself you can try this if you have a xeno with reset switch:
alternate "make life hard on yourself" steps to dump a disc with WODE:
1. put sdload.iso disc in drive (close lid)
2. put sd gecko with CleanRip into GC slot A
3. power on GC and select flat mode
4. go to game play menu and start sdload
5. motor will stop
6. remove sdload disc and put new disc in drive (disc to be dumped) (close lid)
7. hit xeno switch
8. from the sdload menu, start swiss (i tested with swiss 0.3)
9. swiss will initialize the disc drive
10. go to main swiss menu (Button B, then button A)
11. thru swiss menu, go to SD slot and start CleanRip
12. continue with CleanRip as usual
note: md5sum when dumping with wode did not match, md5sum when dumping with wkf did match
note: after dumping with wode is complete clean rip will crash (stop drive motor command?)....will investigate
crash did not happen when dumping with WKF so maybe a slight adjustment to CleanRip will solve the issue...
edit: added WKF disc dumping info
update: wode confirmed fully functional for use with cleanrip and dvd drive.

Re: Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
eternal darkness
so far eternal darkness appears to freeze at the poem, but press A to continue...
the Nintendo logo, Silicon Knights, and dolby prologic screens will appear briefly then the game intro will begin
at the start screen, if you wait, then then nintendo logo and silicon knights screens will play correctly
started the game, shot some skeletons, cutscene played with phone call...
next cutscene played....
entered the mansion
set the clock
entered the study and read the book, cutscene played
and "the chosen one" story line began...cutscene played....
blah blah blah
ill have to dump eternal darkness and compare the results when played from usb/hdd to see if im missing out on anything....
is this typical behavior of eternal darkness when played from backup with wkf or wode?

Re: Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
Just found this after getting back into looking at modding my gamecubes.
I'm guessing that the order period is well expired, but if you have spare ordered or if you're willing to sell the pcb blueprint im willing to spend some cash, especially after seeing the fine detail on the wire porn needed to fit a WKF onto the board.

Design has not been sent to production yet...
Wanted to perform functional testing to confirm designs work...
I guess design is proven to work by now, just need to figure out some of the additional features/benefits

Re: Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
these last few days have been a great example of wireporn problems...
i had a wire that came loose on pin 5 (audio signal) on my dvd port replacement board...
after a quick second to solder fix, i then confirmed perfect audio streaming with wode
eternal darkness poem audio plays like normal with the nintendo logo followed by silicon knights
also verified in game music plays on ikaruga
with this design, these boards are now confirmed to allow audio streaming with wode thru disk drive
thanks to kel01 for the tip (wireporn solder fix)
thanks also to ashen for his discovery of wkf/wode
as i started testing wkf, i ran into major problems for 6 hours trying to troubleshoot my wireporn....
at this point my setup may be too unstable to confirm audio streaming with wkf...but i will say this, when i was testing eternal darkness it acted exactly like wode when i was having my wireporn issues....
then i also noticed the same wire come loose again...then i thought i fried my wkf because it wasnt booting after hiting pin 29 switch...
it could be possible wkf will also work with audio streaming titles...
anyone have a wii and wkf with original streaming audio disc to test with??
or a wii with wkf and drivechip to use a "backup" of eternal darkness???
has the wii group already attempted these type of tests with wkf??

Re: Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
i think wode crashed during dump because i had the redump.dat file on my SD card...im not gonna hook the wode up again for the next few days since i wanna test WKF and confirm if streaming data works....
if anyone wants to test it for me its real simple:
1. load Swiss on HDD/USB and read MD5
2. start Swiss via Wode hdd/usb
3. start CleanRip and begin dumping
4. CleanRip will actually dump Swiss since thats the mounted iso CleanRip will see
5. when done compare MD5s

What ISO of swiss are you using because my WODE refuses to mount the 896KB ones and for some reason it sees the NTSC one as NTSC-j.

Re: Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
I used the PAL iso
>>> BadAssConsoles.com <<<emu_kidid wrote: beer is like WD40 for megalomaniac's brain, gets the gears moving
Re: Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
OK I'll give the PAL iso try and see if I can get those MD5s for you.
EDIT: The PAL iso worked like you said. I just assumed that if the NTSC one didn't work then the others wouldn't. After a couple of attempts to dump it, it keeps getting stuck on 99%. I'm on my third try now and I will let you know if it dumps or not. Nope, just checked and the third attempt also got stuck at 99%.
I did manage to dump Eternal Darkness original disc with the same method though. Although Redump.org seems to be down at the moment the MD5 didn't match up with any other online sources
On another note though I tried the WKF audio streaming support on my Wii chipped with a D2Ckey. The results were not promising
Eternal Darkness would freeze on the poem screen and Ikaruga would play but with no music but the audio streaming on both games worked fine when I removed the WKF.

my md5's were not matching either after the 99% crash...
will take more investigation to confirm where its crashing or what is causing the crash...
now for the good news, WKF confirmed with audio streaming
i have audio during the eternal darkness poem and i have music in ikaruga
after some poking around and some wireporn play action it appears WKF is sending all data from the drive to the mainboard EXCEPT ONE DATA LINE...
Code: Select all
GC pin 1 | WII pin 28
i have MAINBOARD(pin 1) connected to WKF(pin 28) and GC DRIVE(pin1) all at the same time
...this could possibly be a work-around for wii also if anyone wants to try it...wii drive pin 28 > wii mainboard pin 28
i tested the original disc in a non-mod drive with no issues...
i tested cleanrip dump backup disc in xeno-mod drive with no issues...
recommended WKF settings
Code: Select all
WIIKEY FUSION: OFF (off = highlighted blue)
REGION OVERIDE: X
UPDATE BLOCKER: X
WII DISC AUTOBOOT: ON
FULL GC REGION FREE: X
to save WKF settings
scroll down to save and press RIGHT on the control pad
confirmation saved message will be displayed
NOTE: with wkf turned off, GC titles still play as normal via sd slot...
i imagine wiikey fusion on/off might be for patching wii stuff??
i dont know...but for GC, just turn it off and dont worry about it ever again

yay - I'll add WiikeyFusion passthru support to Swiss as well as configuration.
Re: Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
Just to make sure I understand correctly, you have audio streaming working from backups via USB using Wode and from SD using Wiikey Fusion?megalomaniac wrote:now for the good news, WKF confirmed with audio streaming

after some poking around and some wireporn play action it appears WKF is sending all data from the drive to the mainboard EXCEPT ONE DATA LINE...so by connecting one wire from GC DRIVE pin 1 and connecting it to MAINBOARD pin 1, the mainboard is now receiving the required data to play audio streaming titles correctly...Code: Select all
GC pin 1 | WII pin 28

The poem only plays once when Eternal Darkness boots? If so, that's great news! Audio streaming from backups has been a nagging problem for years. Very few Wii modchips properly support it.
I wonder if your work can be adapted to Wii, to provide proper audio streaming support for Wii WODE users as well? I seem to recall reading that the WODE may not have enough hardware connections to properly support an audio fix. Perhaps you've proved that wrong.

Yes, I just read through the whole thread not long ago. I just asked because I wanted to be clear on what you have accomplished.
Re: Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
"with this design, these boards are now confirmed to allow audio streaming with wode thru disk drive"
Maybe I look foolish... but that wouldn't be the first time! Part of why I asked is because I'm not sure what the above quote means. 'Disk drive' means GC DVD drive, or WODE USB HDD?

Re: Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
both WKF and WODE are not able to allow audio streaming data from SD/USB/HDD due to how their firmware was written or due to hardware limitation when using SD/USB/HDD....this means SD/USB/HDD will not work for audio streaming...
...and i dont think they have any plans to change that now...
WODE does allow direct passthru (flat mode) of all GC DVD signals to allow proper playing of audio streaming titles from original disc on a non-mod GC DVD Drive, or from a backup disc with a xeno-mod GC DVD Drive.
WKF does allow direct passthru (flat mode) of all GC DVD signals except for one data line. therefore, a one-wire mod is required between the GC DVD Drive and the GC Mainboard. only then will the GC be able to play audio streaming titles from original disc on a non-mod GC DVD Drive, or from a backup disc with a xeno-mod GC DVD Drive
(currently) the ONLY solution to allow playing audio streaming titles correctly is with a DVD DRIVE
GC DVD Drive directly connected to the WKF/WODE...
...or....
WII DVD Drive directly connected to the WKF/WODE...
since GC DVD Drive does not have the same FFC connector that is found on a WII DVD Drive, that is why i have created a GC DVD Drive Insert Adapter which will allow direct FFC cable connection from the GC DVD Drive to the modchip...
does this help clear up any confusion?

Pin 1 isn't needed when loading games from WKF-SD card I suppose?
Never mind, you have the pin connected to the WKF as well.

Actually while playing with the wiring, I've noticed GC pin 1,3,&5 do not seem to be required for WKF SD ONLY setups...maybe this info will save ashen some time with 3 less wires in his portables

Re: Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
just wanted to post this tip before i forget...
WKF:
if you power on the GC with a SD card in the WKF SD slot but intended to use the disc drive and you have not pressed the pin29 switch...
just eject the SD card and the drive will initiate to load the disc....
i wanted to post this because i had been powering off the GC to remove the sd card and powering back on until i discovered that by just removing the card, WKF will load the disc...
