Well, this is a 3DS:
And this is a 3DS with a Circle Pad Pro:
I was thinking about a 3DS mod with an integrated Circle Pad Pro. I don't have a Circle Pad and am not familiar with the insides of a 3DS, but what do the awesome hardware modders like Ashen here think? Is this something doable?

I'd imagine the area inside the 3DS case is VERY tightly packed with other vital components so you might have a hard time doing this without some sort of external area to store the guts of the circle pad pro (assuming it has some extra logic/etc behind it).
Also, how many games make use of the extra stick anyway?

you could CNC a small piece of plastic to increase the size available, you might have to use a PSP slider as they are smaller. and you might not be able to close the 3ds properly, but it should be quite simple

I bought one, from what I remember it uses a single AAA battery to power it. Don't see why you would want to integrate it, even if all games supported it. It's better that you can remove it whenever you want

See, the extra battery is on reason to make this integrated without a battery. I find it hard to believe that the circle pad can't get power from the 3DS battery.

I'm sure you could mod it to run from the 3DS's internal battery somehow. But actually building it into the 3DS itself is probably not gonna happen. I've never opened up a 3DS personally, but from past experience with normal DS's the free space inside the case is probably close to nonexistant.
Best way to find out though, if you're feeling frisky is to just crack both of em open and see for yourself.
