GameCube Component Cable Compatibility?
GameCube Component Cable Compatibility?
Hi,
I just found my old Spice Orange GameCube, along with my component cable. So I took everything out of the box, getting ready to relive those memories! Set everything up, all is good and well. But when I start the GameCube up, I get a picture but no sound when using the component cable. I've tried using a RGB Scart cable, but that doesn't display a picture, however I can hear the sound though. The only cable that seemed to work fully on my TV was the AV cable (the one that you get with the GameCube).
How can I get the component cable to work?
My TV is a Panasonic Viera TX-P50C3B. I'm not very technical when it comes to situations like these.
Also, I live in the UK so I don't use the Japanese power unit. I use the UKV version.
Thank you, all help is appreciated.

Re: GameCube Component Cable Compatibility?
the component cable only outputs video
you need the AV cable connected to your audio inputs, and the component cable connected to your video inputs....
no other solution available unless you want to perform hardware modifications....

Re: GameCube Component Cable Compatibility?
It's fairly simple:
Composite cable - Uses three colour coded RCA plugs: Yellow (Video) Red (Audio - right) and White (Audio - left)
Component cable - uses three colour coded RCA plugs for Video only

Eek! You'd do best to not use a LCD HDTV for a Gamecube.oaty541 wrote:My TV is a Panasonic Viera TX-P50C3B.

Ah...
Thanks for the help.
And which TV do you recommend? As I only have the Viera in my house.
I have a VGA adapter, but that won't show as good quality compared to the component cable.

Re: GameCube Component Cable Compatibility?
Also, I know this completely off topic but does any have (or know a place that has) a Datel FreeLoader Version 1.06B. As I have quite a lot of PAL games. Can't find them anywhere.
Re: GameCube Component Cable Compatibility?
If you using a Japanese GameCube then you need a NTSC region Freeloader disc.oaty541 wrote:Also, I know this completely off topic but does any have (or know a place that has) a Datel FreeLoader Version 1.06B. As I have quite a lot of PAL games. Can't find them anywhere.
I think your best bet would be to Xeno chip your GC or get a cheap PAL Cube from ebay or similar. You cab get a loose GC with shipping for a fiver if your lucky.

I did ask CodeJunkies, they replied with that the version 1.06B supports any region GameCube, and can play any region games.
My GameCube already has a switch installed, when I bought it. It changes the region to NTSC-U. I prefer to keep it as this. Couldn't buy a PAL GameCube, then the Orange would be a waste of money really.

I will test tomorrow and post results.
You do realise you can buy the disc from Codejunkies website for £10 now minus delivery charge?

From what I remember, I did have one of those, but it did not work as it is for European consoles.
Re: GameCube Component Cable Compatibility?
Any decent CRT TV will do. It shouldn't be hard to find one depending on where you live, as people are getting rid of them all the time.oaty541 wrote:And which TV do you recommend?

Re: GameCube Component Cable Compatibility?
The disc on Codejunkies is the Freeloader you asked about but you say you have/had it already. Codejunkies is a brand name for Datel.oaty541 wrote:

I am confused.
Anyway for what its worth the Freeloader does indeed work on both NTSC and PAL machines.
I tested on a US GameCube as my Japanese machine is real sickly right now.

Sorry to confuse. The version you linked isn't the version I am looking for, as I did purchase that before. But it didn't work on my GameCube, as its made for PAL GameCubes. I am looking for a specific version, because I did ask Codejunkies which FreeLoader would be compatible with my GameCube. He replied with the version 1.06B (not "b").

That is the one I am looking for. Its because my GameCube supports NTSC-U and NTSC-J, but I want to play PAL games on it. With the 1.06B version, this allows me to play any region games on any region GameCube. I hope you can understand my situation now.
Re: GameCube Component Cable Compatibility?
Let me throw a spanner in the works
I have both .b and .B freeloader discs and they BOTH boot import games on my launch US GC unit.
Maybe later GC hardware revisions are not compatable with the .b disc.
I can not test on Japan GC as its in bits for several years now

By any chance would you be selling the 1.06B version? I'm desperate for one, haha.
Re: GameCube Component Cable Compatibility?
Because Gamecube games look bad on them. Compare with a CRT TV.HomelandReloaded wrote:Why not? I use them all the time.BenoitRen wrote:Eek! You'd do best to not use a LCD HDTV for a Gamecube.

Whaaat? Codejunkies said that both 1.06B and 1.06b are separate editions. Plus, I think .b version wouldn't work on GameCube, from the posts I have read on the internet.

The .b version is titled version 1.06 on the underside inner ring whilst .B is named version 1.06B on the inner ring.
Not for sale.
On the subject of TV - well lcd can handle 480P when required.

Re: GameCube Component Cable Compatibility?
that has more to do with the built in upscaler; a nearest neighbour upscaler looks shit, but a bilinear upscaler looks pretty good. My Sony Bravia looks quite good with GC gamesBenoitRen wrote:Because Gamecube games look bad on them. Compare with a CRT TV.HomelandReloaded wrote:Why not? how many LCD HDTVs have you had the chance to compare results?
...and are you comparing 480i, 480p, 576i, composite, RGB, RF adapter, S-video, or component ??
there are a lot of factors to consider before you make a broad statement about all LCD HDTVs...

Re: GameCube Component Cable Compatibility?
LCD TVs have only one video resolution. Everything else has to be scaled, which means you only get an approximation of the original image. There are upscalers of varying qualities that makes it look like shit (did someone smear vaseline on this thing?) to decent (which looks like plastic to me), but it'll always be an approximation. This holds true for all types of signals and video resolutions (except for the native one, of course), so yes, I can make broad statements about them.
I haven't even said anything about colour and black fidelity yet.
Contrast with a CRT TV, which always shows the image as intended as it has a flexible electron gun instead of fixed crystal/diodes.
