From what I understand, they didn't hack the Wii U. They hacked the drive. All software related things like region lock will still be intact.

My guess is that it's the common key.
Not huge if they have it. The wii was hacked with a combination of common key and other exploits. (strncmp)
Still, if that's legit, they are further along than any other group out there.

fail0verflow has full access to the wiiU system since February but until now he hasnt released anything. I think he will wait until someone wants to do some profits with modchips or anything and then he will release a open source solution.
