I remove my statement. The v5 seems perfect in terms of price. Wasp+v5+shipping is the cost of a wkf with shipping here. Also I have an idea to keep the DVD drive too.

Just to answer your idea you have it is possible to keep megadrive v5 connected and the DVD drive you just take a power sander to the bottom drive port to get it almost flush with the motherboard then solder the v5 on. I'm waiting for mine to come but the motherboard is ready to go only thing I'm thinking about us how to disable the wasp so the DVD drive can take over maybe just a switch?

Yeah, a switch. As long as you switch power on either device it /should/ work. My idea however was to remove the connector from the mobo and solder a second v5 to it. It would just need the FFC connector to be reverted if you know what I mean.

That's not a bad idea but more megadrives more money. I'm trying to keep my cost down on my projects so my wife won't get involved. Well modding always has its reward and failure I have killed 3 ps3s just trying to downgrade them but after working on ps3s the GameCube is a walk in the park so far very easy to solder to. Not like the ps3 you want a challenge try downgrading one by soldering. That fucking nor clip never worked not once I bought 3 of them.

GC DVD port always supplies 5v to the connector...
you cannot have both DVD and WASP/WKF/WODE receiving power at the same time or else there will be data conflict....
both devices must have the ability to isolate power when not in use...else reroute all signals

BTW, guess where the 5v DVD power comes from...i think is was Tchay that showed us the voltage map of the mainboard....5v comes from the hidden later....not accessible without hardcore modding to sand away that area to connect a switch...
....but another solution does exist...

Well, the v5 uses external 3V anyway, as for the drive you can cut pins on the connector.

also the driveboard itself can be modified....cut the traces

Did you consider a combination of V5 & V6 (a new v7) and cutting the traces that are going from the DVD filters to the DVD connector?

Considering it grossly exceeds the probable shipping price I assume you will be refunded the difference after mega has gotten the shipping quote from the post center.

Mmmmmm. When will motherboards be available Mega? Do you have enough stock to allow me to be picky and choose which rev's I'd like? I'm all set to order, but I'd like to get a few boards while I'm at it. Are all boards NTSC? Or will PAL be available too?

if you would, please inform them V4 does not require any soldering and is shipped as an entire DVD drive ready to plug in with all connections and chip prebuilt into the DVD drive...
