If you can't get a Pioneer drive where you are, some others to consider are Samsung, BenQ or LG. Those ones will also do a good job making backups. Avoid Panasonic/Matsushita like the plague.
Datawrite sounds like just a brand name to me. I've never used them, but there's a fair chance that they will work depending on the dye they were made with. Check the MID in a burning program (I use imgburn), and if it's RITEKG04 then the discs will work fine at about 165Ω. The only other MID that I'm 100% sure works for mini DVDs is TDKG02, but you have to turn your pot right down to like 75Ω. If you can't find some RITEKG04 mini DVDs then it's a matter of trial and error with your pot value until it works. Some dyes just don't work. Unfortunately there's usually no way of telling what dye you're getting until you have the pack open
