SunDriver IDE ATA
SunDriver IDE ATA
I just found the SunDriver IDE ATA at a ridiculous price (7.90€): http://www.siliteo.fr/sundriver-ide-ata ... ement.html
Maybe it is can be a good alternative as drive replacement.
I'm wondering if the Sundriver can be handled by Swiss or there are any technical limitation.

Re: SunDriver IDE ATA
Sure, it could be handled by Swiss if it can boot to the menu at least through the real GC menu. Then it'd just need me to buy one and implement it into Swiss. Anyone feel like trying to buy one and then letting me know if it's actually legit from there?

Re: SunDriver IDE ATA
I think I will give it a try.
EDIT: I just ordered two. I will keep you guys updated.

Re: SunDriver IDE ATA
I also ordered two of them, I expect to receive them by tomorrow.
Re: SunDriver IDE ATA
I got the boards

Re: SunDriver IDE ATA
Nice! Does the Menu load on GameCube?
Re: SunDriver IDE ATA
I need to order a cable for powering up the board
(http://save-mii.com/ten/product/11/123/ ... Cable.html)
I'm not sure which FW is preinstalled, so I'm think to order also a Nero Dual programmer (http://save-mii.com/ten/product/11/261/ ... -Dual.html)
Do you know if the Injectus (http://save-mii.com/ten/product/11/1527 ... ammer.html) can be used with this board?

Re: SunDriver IDE ATA
No, I have no idea :/
I saw, that you can update the (GameCube based) menu without the programmer, so I just hope, that the preinstalled firmware is okay.
Also: Which version did you get? The screenshots show both versions
But I think this is the IDE + CF version, right?

Re: SunDriver IDE ATA
If this is working, my plan is to buy a 128GB compact flash card. Doesn't need extra power and 128GB seem to be enough for most good and okay games on the GameCube ^^
Re: SunDriver IDE ATA
Good luck with that, the cheap ones start at $200 (anything less will be fake) and the decent ones start at $500.badsector wrote:If this is working, my plan is to buy a 128GB compact flash card. Doesn't need extra power and 128GB seem to be enough for most good and okay games on the GameCube ^^
Re: SunDriver IDE ATA
There are 128GB cards for 80€. I don't think that I will need a high speed card.

Reviews are decent, 4/5 stars.

Re: SunDriver IDE ATA
Almost guaranteed to be fake for that price.
Re: SunDriver IDE ATA
Take a look at the link that I just updated.
They seem to be lexar cards, that did not hit the high quality standards. If the card does not work, I send it back to amazon.

Re: SunDriver IDE ATA
If you check the reviews, they're all basically split into two categories:
- good reviews: people saying it works with their camera and can hold 1000s of photos (duh, so can an 8GB card).
- bad reviews: people saying the cards initially worked but either randomly failed later or during formatting, then became unrecognized/unusable. This is a sure sign of a card overflowing its physical capacity and trashing parts of the NAND that are meant to hold configuration/mapping data.

Re: SunDriver IDE ATA
But on the other hand, you don't put data onto the card every day, when using inside of a GameCube. Most of the time you are just reading data. But maybe you are right. In this case, I will try using an extension/adapter to put a CF slot on the outside of the Cube and use smaller and better CF cards.

Re: SunDriver IDE ATA
It wouldn't matter how often the card was written to, it would fail as soon as you try to write beyond the real capacity of the flash memory (which is probably something like 8 or 16GB).
You can get SD<->Compact Flash adapters, performance is a lot worse than using native CF but SD cards are a hell of a lot cheaper.

Re: SunDriver IDE ATA
Thanks for all your input! I will consider how to use the Sundriver as soon as we know if it works

Re: SunDriver IDE ATA
Last I heard Lexar wasn't that good of a brand to start with. At least not for PSP memory sticks.badsector wrote:They seem to be lexar cards, that did not hit the high quality standards.
