beginners help totally new SDML | SNES | GC

Post by sillyrabbitt123 » Thu Sep 18, 2014 8:23 pm

I watched a video on how to do this and then couldnt find the DL referneced in the vid. Now I am a total mess and not sure if this is the best way to do what I want to do. Maybe I need to just start over.

ANY help is greatly appreciated!

I want to try to emulate snes [games I totally own] on gamecube using sd launcher from datel. I read a thread where they were using Snes9xGx 2.0.1b1 - Snes Emulator for the Wii/Gamecube.

Is there a guide to exactly what I need to Download and steps to follow? is this what i need?

[1] SDML
[2] Snes9xGx [what version ?]
[3] Do i need an SD Gecko or wiikey or SDwiikey or if I have SDML I am ok is that all i need?
[4] a non SDHC 2gbs or less
[5] GC

can I use any version of Snes9xGx to accomplish this? if I am totally off track what do I need to do this? thank you in advance.

thanks!

Here's what you do:

1. Go here and either go to the GoogleCode download page or grab the attached version of the emulator:
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=11
2. Put the DOL and the folder structure on your SD card (2GB or less non SDHC), put ROMs in the right folder \snes9x\roms\ I believe or similar
3. Boot up SDML with the SD card inserted, if it detects it, you should see the .DOL on the gamecube, select it and press A to boot it.
4. Enjoy.

It's basically the same process for all emulators, if you want them in a easy to select manner you could get megaloader (basically a emulator selector frontend) and name it autoexec.dol on your SD card to have it auto-boot to that every time you launch SDML.

wow emu_kidid you made my week. thanks so much for putting it into context. i feel like i might pull this off.

i have a few other questions if you dont mind. i didnt get the sdml yet its on order so i am just preparing so i can hit the ground running.

-i also want to be able to download game save files .gci files to help unlock stuff from the games. can i use the same sd card to store those files on as the emulator?

- finally do i also need a sd gecko or sdwii key for anything?

t h a n k s ! ! !

If you have an actual GameCube memory card, you will be able to move the GCI files over to the memory card using GCMM (https://code.google.com/p/gcmm/downloads/list) from a SD card in the memory card slot. This is the only way as there isn't anything with decent memory card emulation on GameCube that can use these.

SDML comes with a SD adapter for your memory card slot, it's pretty crappy quality so you might end up needing a WiiSD adapter thing from dealextreme.com/eBay/etc for a few dollars.

thanks again for all the help. i do have a gamecube memory card so i will use sdml and gcmm [program] to move the .gci files from the sd card to the gamecube memory card is that correct?

the last question [for now] is what about SNES emulation cheats? is there like a virtual game genie or the like? or is there a way to cheat when playing emulated snes?

thanks again.

Yes to your first question, and I'm not sure about the second, I'd say no.

thanks in advance... i got the SDML finally. what i really want to do is use game save states and cheats for super mario world. how do i do that. what does an sram save do? i see a snapshot saves exactly where i left off which is great but whst does the other sram do?

also how do i load up cheats? is there a virtual game genie? i see the cheat files and i have loaded them up and matched the cht file name to the game name and i can go into the menu options to turn cheat on but then how do i cheat? i dont see any options for actual cheating?

thanks for any help!!!!

sram is emulating the battery backup for games that support it. So in case of Mario World when you save a game it will write that to sram and allow you to continue
