Gamecube memory card slots

I wired an internal memory card to slot b of my gamecube only to find that a lot of games don't give the option to use slot b.
I was wondering if maybe there's a way to force some of these games to use slot b instead of slot a somehow.
I don't want to have to solder to slot a because it would require me to remove some components here and there but if I have to I will.
Any info would be appreciated.

I'm afraid you will have to. It's probably best in the long run as it'll give you 100% compatibility.
