Info about using full-size DVD's

Post by andre104623 » Mon Aug 10, 2015 5:44 pm

I just got my viperGC top case from here in the marketplace and I starting to burn some games. It seems that the gamecube disc motor is having trouble spinning the disc to proper speed. So far I had 2 games work without problems F-Zero GX and resident evil 2 but the drive resets sometimes with that game. I have replaced the motor from a dol-101 I had in pieces. Hopefully when I test it I will have better results.

Does anyone here use full-size disc on a regular basis? This is my first time using a full-size top cover

Thanks

I always use full size for testing...
Reset is either a bad burn area or weak laser..try adjusting the pot

Spinning issues are a worn motor or 5v supply issues...replace motor or power board

I used full size discs for a few years, even with a newish laser (from factory, not eBay), there were issues after a few months if the burn wasn't perfect, particularly when the drive would go from a long idle period like in a level of Pikmin to the next loading area, it'd have a high chance to lose sync.

I have improved the read speeds and luck I'm calling it by changing the dvd motor

Edit: I turned the POT from 50ohm to 170ohm and that seems to fix all problems I was having. I should note that I'm using cheap disc's metriod prime will not work no matter what. Even miniDVD's I have problems with this game so SD gecko it is or IDE-EXI I haven't used it in ages because I stole the hard drive for the Xbox 1.2 TSOP flash. I will get a IDE hard drive at a later time because I do like using the IDE-EXI over SD gecko
