swiss compressed R296 qoob flash
I got my qoob pro today in the mail after messing about with some cheats I wanted to try swiss on flash. Now i must have been a little confused about swiss on flash and swiss as primary bios which i thought was bios but after flashing the qoobs flash with r296 then apon booting a title i hold down the b button to enter config menu to select swiss and then it boots the .dol and swiss pops on the screen. But here is my problem no matter what game i run no matter what region my memory card will not work. Every game says it needs to be formatted and is it possible to have swiss as my primary bios? Is this a known problem should i erase the flash and try a older version of swiss? Never messed around with a qoob pro before so its a learning experience for me.
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

Which device are the games on? Is there any difference if you boot the Qoob with Y down?

Re: swiss compressed R296 qoob flash
The games are on DVD. If I turn on the system with a disc in the tray then press B to go into the menu I can choose to load swiss that I flashed from USB. Then I see the game in swiss at that time I can press A to load the game from swiss or Y or X to go into settings of the game to force 480p mode and widescreen stuff like that but no matter which settings I choose the game says i have to format my memory card to save this happens with the about 9 games I tried all the same thing I can't saveemu_kidid wrote:Which device are the games on? Re: swiss compressed R296 qoob flash
I'll check it out tomorrow night. PS you can hold Y at Qoob boot to avoid the unnecessary drive reset.

Re: swiss compressed R296 qoob flash
I'm not getting a drive reset when I boot swiss from flash it boots right into swiss game boot screen if I press A at that point the game will boot almost instantaneously no drive reset or drive patches. But my memory card always says format if I boot right from qoob then its fine and my memory card is fine. I should note that I'm using a NTSC-J console and I'm playing NTSC-U games I never had problems before with playing games with the qoob SX but I was using swiss on DVD then after swiss would boot I place my game in the drive it did it's drive reset and patches.emu_kidid wrote:I'll check it out tomorrow night. I'm going to try an older version of swiss tonight and see if that's makes my memory card work

Did you mod the console to NTSC U ?

No just kept it NTSC-JStreetwalker wrote:Did you mod the console to NTSC U ?
Re: swiss compressed R296 qoob flash
Try setting Force Encoding to SJIS.
Re: swiss compressed R296 qoob flash
NTSC J and NTSC U/PAL use incompatible memory card file systems. If it works in an NTSC U Cube then you need to region mod the motherboard. Or try Extrems's suggestion.
Re: swiss compressed R296 qoob flash
The region mod will have no effect with Swiss. Swiss fixes the default behavior and gives you the option of broken behavior.
Re: swiss compressed R296 qoob flash
News to me. I thought Swiss had no options to switch between English or Japanese, just left it alone like Freeloader and modchips.
Does this mean we can now change language of Star Fox Adventures without a hard mod (as I'd asked about before)?

Re: swiss compressed R296 qoob flash
How is this news to you? I've done this last year as it was brought up here (it does work on PAL).

My posts in that topic were before the announcement.Extrems wrote:How is this news to you? I've done this last year as it was brought up here (it does work on PAL).
In any case, perhaps Swiss should display a warning message when its encoding option mis-matches the IPL or the inserted memory cards.
Whichever is more intuitive.

I been using the same memory card for months. It never leaves the console its only for my NTSC-j console only. This is becuase i know of the incompatibility between region JAP/USA. But this is becuase of the IPL has nothing to do with game saves. I have use my memory card to save usa games without problem for a while with different forms of modchips

Re: swiss compressed R296 qoob flash
Problem fixed by flashing swiss 0.3 R174. I know its old but if someone could give me a newer version I could flash that will make my memory card work that would be cool.
Re: swiss compressed R296 qoob flash
lol, just wait 24hrs for me to get a chance to look at it before you go and use ancient Swiss which will have other issues and incompatibilities.
I forget, my Qoob GC doesn't have the lidswitch bypass connected and that's why I have to hold Y to avoid a drive reset at boot instead of just holding B.

Its fine take your time at least its working. Its not like its a hassle flashing the qoob pro I just couldn't find any versions of swiss. I do have a lot of versions but i never kept the compressed qoob version becuase i had no use for it till yesterday.emu_kidid wrote:lol, just wait 24hrs for me to get a chance to look at it before you go and use ancient Swiss which will have other issues and incompatibilities.

Hmm. Having not created or seen a compatibility list, I've always simply assumed all USA and Europe games save/load without issue (other than the memory card being Japan format) using the Japanese IPL.andre104623 wrote:I been using the same memory card for months. Try a non-Japanese memory card. If Swiss is properly simulating the environment of a non-Japanese console, that will fix it.andre104623 wrote:Problem fixed by flashing swiss 0.3 R174. The memory card problem was caused by swiss R296. I will update to the new one later today see if I have any problems with that version.theclaw wrote:Hmm. They really don't tell you much about using cheats on qoob pro. Even if you google it not much info but I figured it out luckily I was able to keep Swiss, Cheat engine, Cheats, and Config all on qoob flash. 2.0 MB is really not much to work with I tried flashing Gecko OS 1.06.dol but it fails half way though.

Re: swiss compressed R296 qoob flash
New swiss release brings memory card problems back. I can force encoding to SJ something then my memory card works fine with the 2 games I tried. Also if I go into swiss with disc in the tray from qoob flash then back out to choose other device then back over to DVD disc swiss will say error Lid open press A when the Lid is closed. Tried it with Lid open same thing then open then closed still Swiss says Lid open press A. USB gecko shows up twice in swiss info. Audio streaming works well from SD gecko I need to get a hard drive ready to try out IDE-EXI
Re: swiss compressed R296 qoob flash
That's normal. Regardless whether the region change is via a toggle switch, different console, or Swiss:
JPN encoding mode can't read/write USA/PAL memory cards.

Re: swiss compressed R296 qoob flash
That makes no sense. Just the fact that if I choose not to use swiss and just load the dvd from qoob it works fine with any region game and jpn memory card. I have usa, jap, and pal game saves on one memory card people are confusing memory card compatibility with game region when its the IPL that is causing the incompatibility. Just the fact that i was using swiss r174 and was fine should be an indication that something is not righttheclaw wrote:That's normal. Lets forget the qoob for a second instead I'm using a xeno gc. Works fine load any title from gamecube IPL using the same memory card and same NTSC-j system no matter of game region. I can play biohazard 2 then pop the disc and play resident evil 2 both games are saving to the same memory card on a NTSC-j console.

Re: swiss compressed R296 qoob flash
This answer right here fixed the problem. But a better question should be why do I need to do this before booting a title. I would think swiss would automatically know that I'm using a NTSC-j console and I want to play a USA game. What happened between now and swiss r274 that i must do this everytime i want to play an out of region game its not like I'm trying to use a USA memory card on a Japan console. I'm using a japan memory card on a japan system which i never had any problems with before only till i used r296 and 0.4Extrems wrote:Try setting Force Encoding to SJIS.
Re: swiss compressed R296 qoob flash
Because Swiss is overriding the IPL region when not set to SJIS.
On an NTSC-J system you may as well keep SJIS enabled permanently, except for Star Fox (until a cheat code to force language is discovered).
Kirby Air Ride is actually improved by SJIS. Parts of the USA debug menu use it https://tcrf.net/Kirby_Air_Ride/Debug_M ... e_Features).

Your still missing the question. Why do I need to do this now when r174 would be finetheclaw wrote:Because Swiss is overriding the IPL region when not set to SJIS.
