GameCube DVD drive power requirements
GameCube DVD drive power requirements
So I was on my way home from work today, and I wondered if it might be possible to hook up both a Wasp and the drive together with a megadrive V5. In my installation, rather than removing the DVD connector, I used a Dremel to grind the pins flat on the underside of the board, in case I ever wanted to reattach the drive. I thought maybe some kind of DPDT switch would suffice, one pole controlling power going to the Wasp, and the other controlling power to the drive. I know the Wasp takes a single 3.3v line in, but the DVD drive seems to have multiple 5v lines going to it; with that in mind, does anyone know of the drive requires all of those to function? As in, could I just disconnect one of the 5v lines to effectively power down the drive?

Short anwser no, I just tried something like this and the data lines cause conflict as well also to remove power from the dvd drive your going to have to remove the connector from the dvd drive to remove the pins from the connector that supply power. Mega has something in the works for something like this that doesnt require megadrive v4. I dont think he wants to build them anymore to much trouble and troubleshootingXaranar wrote:So I was on my way home from work today, and I wondered if it might be possible to hook up both a Wasp and the drive together with a megadrive V5. Fair enough. Thought I'd ask as I didn't think that I would be the first person to have this idea.andre104623 wrote:Short anwser no, I just tried something like this and the data lines cause conflict as well also to remove power from the dvd drive your going to have to remove the connector from the dvd drive to remove the pins from the connector that supply power.
