Gamecube Service Disc
For those who don't know it, check it out here.
The big problem with it is that it's made to work only on old Gamecubes (probably Rev. A only), newer ones detect the disc fine but can't boot it (stays forever in the black screen, no messages or warnings). (More discussion here.)
My question is: it's possible to patch it to work in all or at least most Gamecubes...?

Re: Gamecube Service Disc
I imagine it would be easy.
The GC probably just detects the title ID of the disc.
If you open it in GC-tool or maybe even a hex editor, you could change the ID and have it boot.
However, that would assume that you have a modchip and you burn all your games.
With the introduction of swiss, hardly anybody uses discs.
I imagine the GC would boot the image no problem via swiss.
As a side note, I wonder if the freeloader would allow the disc to boot.
Does anybody know exactly what the freeloader does?

Re: Gamecube Service Disc
Well, I tried editing the disc ID and even replacing the bootloader with one from other game, and still Swiss always shows the exception screen while 'checking game' after I try to launch the game.

SD-Boot stays in the black screen after I try to.boot it.
Runs fine in Dolphin though.
I think they use some other hardware trick..

It boots on my GameCube. Burned it to a mini-dvd. Shows up with correct icon and banner in menu as well. Don't have the newer DOL-101 cubes though. Perhaps it's those it has trouble booting on.

Re: Gamecube Service Disc
You should be able to just use the top entry and boot that? Can you post a picture?GizmoTheGreen wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 6:41 pmtrying to bood with modern Swiss from burned disc it only gives a long list of .dols to load... it can't fins the default?

I went to take pictures just now and I chose the top entry as in "boot the disc". then it startes patching 412 files. once thats done it shows me a huge list of .dol files. now I noticed the "or press b to boot normally" that I didn't see before!emu_kidid wrote: ↑Thu Oct 18, 2018 7:49 amYou should be able to just use the top entry and boot that? so there is no problem, I think.
I choose to boot from disc because from SD it errors with "failed to find function for patching" on almost every DOL making it take an eternity to finish.
Re: Gamecube Service Disc
That's kind of crap, I should add a warning for this scenario and allow it to just be booted directly without patching by default.

Re: Gamecube Service Disc
Anything new on this situation? It still patches 412 files when loading from an SD Gecko before letting me choose which dol i want to boot from.
