Wii DVD/Wiikey Fusion/WODE + GC Portable Discussion
Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
you shouldn't run the gamecube without any cooler on it, it really shortens the lifetime of the chips.

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
I probably shouldn't cut the board into tiny peices either. I just can't help myself though.
Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
Well the cutting is fine, a portable has to be small :p

Mikog: the circuit board in the foreground is the portable GC. Ashen doesn't have it in the case yet. The laptop seems to be displaying the video output.
Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
I think emu_kidid might have plans to support some kind of loading from the Wiikey. Remember swiss could be loaded from the wiikey through a bootable iso image at the very least.doktor_krotch wrote:Can the boot loader of the wiikey fusion be replaced with a hombrew program? Say like Swiss for example ...
Edit - but I don't think streaming audio support will be possible because there's not enough logic on the wiikey fusion to do so.
Streaming audio games are playable with the Wiikey, only the streaming audio itself is not working.
It was only running for 10 or 15 seconds there to test the board, hardly enough time to toast the chips. They will be properly heatsinked soon I promise.Dragoon wrote:Well the cutting is fine, a portable has to be small :p

Correct. I was just being lazy at the time and vid capture software on my netbook was the easiest way to test video and sound. Since I butchered my PSone screen that I was using and havent had time to troubleshoot it yet.doktor_krotch wrote:Mikog: the circuit board in the foreground is the portable GC. I found a list of multidisc gamecube games that seems pretty complete (http://gaming.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Mu ... cube_games), there are only 3-4 on the list tops that I would want to play. Not that big of a deal right now, maybe in the future we can figure out a way to merge the discs so swapping isn't necessary.

Looks like we made the front page! good job boys!
Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
Hey guys, my wiikey fusion arrived yesterday, so i will join this mod
Great news on wiikey.com, will probably point more people to this forum.
Recently found this nice pieces of hardware:one, two
They may be alternatives (to not solder on the flat cable directly) to the adapter mentioned earlier in this thread. Only if size is not important, of course.
I am also looking for the gamecube dvd drive connector, i found a very similar one produced by foxconn in dell laptops (see one side here). I think foxconn has a matching connector for us. Unfortunately they will not provide any bulk connectors to private individuals...

My converter board arrived yesterday. I bought the converter board and plug and asked the seller to solder them together for me . It costed me 2.8 us $ each without freight.
I purchased them from http://www.taobao.com, the biggest e-business site in China.

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
Wow, Those are great finds guys. Might be a more viable option than the proto advantage connectors. I will add those links to the megaguide. 2 adapters from protoadvantage cost me around 38$ shipped. Its been about 2 weeks and they are still not here yet... Finding a replicant of the male GC DVD connector is going to be a major pain in the ass I think. I've been looking all over also and havent had much luck. On the lighter side of thing my fusions should hopefully be here tomorrow or Monday. Keep in mind you may need to update the fusion to v1.5 firmware on a Wii. I didn't see this until today but it looks like they didnt add GC iso image support to the SD side of things till firmware v1.3
Edit: Bearteam can you get me direct links to the exact webpages you ordered from on that site. I can't read chinese

Ashen, here are the links.

You need to talk to the seller to ask him to solder them for you, I don't know whether the seller can understand English.

My Gamecube with Wiikey fusion.

Bearteam:
Can you post a pic of how you attached to red wires to the Gamecube main board?
Thanks.

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
That's strange, some of my NTSC-J games could run ,but some just hang on when the GC logo shows.
Paul.str, I attached to red wires to the Gamecube main board as Ashen shows in another thread.

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
Very nice bearteam! As for the games that hang, are you sure they are good dumps? Might be wire length too. Looks awesome though.

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
Maybe the reason is that my ISO is the one in which the garbage is removed. I can run the original ISO of Batman - Dark Tomorrow, but if I remove the garbage, it just hangs at the time when Gamecube logo shows.Ashen wrote:Very nice bearteam! Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
Good to know, so no image scrubbing. I don't think it matters anyway. Zenloc said the images take up 1.4gb regardless.

So how far off is this project from being a reality?
Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
It is still in development, but somewhat usable...

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
cool I hope to build one of them when the bugs are worked out a little better.
Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
Which part of the project? The portable? Or loading from SD/HDD? SD loading is working with the wiikey (same region only with unscrubbed images). I'm sure Zenloc or Emu will post back with WODE results when they get to testing it.Hells Guardian wrote:So how far off is this project from being a reality?

As far as the portable goes, I'm still waiting on some shipments. Working on building my vacuum forming table right now.
Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
Ashen do you think that it would work to have the wiikey fusion working on the GC as it does on the Wii?.. having it in-between motherboard and DVD?
I mean having the fusion + DVD.
