I've heard of the Swiss thing but apparently that requires a disc to work, no? There are also modchips but I'd rather not mod my console. I'm new to all of this and would like to know if there's a way to launch Swiss without the disc reader or whatever other method that would allow me to still play games on the unmodded console.
Some guidance will be much appreciated.
My GC stopped reading discs. What are my options now?

For unmodified, you need a working disc drive. There's no exploit for BS2/IPL (the menu you see when you boot up the GameCube).
You can use an original disc and a save game exploit (prepared using a modded console/Wii/from eBay), the supported games are listed here Game Save Exploits.

and your actual options are to get a service repair done for new disc drive capacitors and perhaps laser adjustment, though laser adj. is less necessary unless its the final approach.
Theres youtubers who advertise their service thru videos of it being done or im sure somewhere else has people who like to do it. While youre at it, get a modchip installed from them. OR theres this guy on ebay who sells the whole disc drive with new caps and modchip installed, where you must replace it in your gamecube yourself, his name is method2kh on ebay. I bought swiss discs from him and he really helped me out.

You have to solder in new capacitors to the disc drive PCB. It's difficult for a first time solder job just because the damn pads always seem to never want to let go.
As for tweaking the laser levels, it's pointless its now 2024 and all the capacitors are going bad, this is a very common issue at this point and at best you might get it to read disks 50% of the time but it's not going to last.
I would recommend going to a local game store and seeing if they do repair or doing it yourself. Do not buy a replacement disk drive unless its has new capacitors as this is a major problem going on with the gamecube marketplace. Sadly it's not 100% fix otherwise I would just do it as a service out of the 8 I did, 2 failed.
