Viper GC Extreme USB Adapter problems

So...finally i got to this again...and got maaad in 20mins
So i'm trying to flash the filesystem of my viper extreme. both of the dip switches on OFF, programming cable not plugged in, adapter plugged into the serial port.

cobra manager connects to it, i add a file (ANY file, from the smallest theme to swiss) and it starts flashing and the bar doesn't move anymore. after some time an error pops up: usb adapter wasn't found anymore or something like that, sounds like a timeout

anybody else with problems like this???

I assume you have the Gamecube turned on too? try another chip if you have it, but I assume you've also tried, another USB cable, triple checked connections/etc?

Can you boot this Viper up on the GC?

yep, Viper boots fine, i can use the cobra bios etc etc, tried 3 usb cables yadda yadda :/

the dip switches are set correctly? only on cobra 2.1 it isnt nesseccary to change the switch position with other bios <cobra 2.1 you need to change the position.

as emu suggested on IRC, that the ribbon cable should be attached, too didn't help either

for the people who dont speak German. the link is a review of the viper gc extreme. it shows how people can flash their viper chip. and it says that die second dip swith needs to switch on to enable the programm mode. so you should be able to flash your viper.

well, thats for flashing the bios

i'm using cobra manager to flash dols into the flash of the viper, not a bios.

doesnt matter. which bios are you using at the moment? the only bios you dont need to change the dip switch is cobra 2.1. for the rest you need to change also for flashing the flash of the viper. i have had the same error on my windows 7 pc with xp mode. after i have used anonter xp pc, chorter usb cable and switched the dip to on everything works for me.


edit: try flasher 1.0 maybe this would solve the problem.

i'm using 2.1 and i'm using the manager, not the flasher.

I have the same error I guess it's a too big DOL.
I also tried a different USB adapter but got the same result

as i said, it doesnt matter which DOL i use.

I can atleast write some DOL's to it, maybe we could write some program to keep te connection alive.

I'd like to add as well that my Viper USB adapter is not detected at all in my pc, which leaves me burning media just to flash dols, how did you get yours to write dragoon?

i still need to try that, burn dols and then flash...

speaking of that, is it even possible to "copy" DOLs from a DVD to the Vipers flash?

You need to install the driver wich comes with it. (fx2install.ini or something like that, should be in the viper thread)

It is possible to copy dols from dvd to flash.

Sorry to bump an old topic, just wanted to share my experience with flashing the Viper.

After soldering again and again, wondering why the viper flasher froze on writing.
I successfully flashed the viper, and it boots wonderfully.

Using the "ViperUSBWin7Driver.zip" resulted in freezing the viper flashing program while writing.
Then I tried another Netbook with the driver and flasher from "ViperFlasherUSB10.zip" with Cobra 1.5,
and it flashed perfectly.

Have yet to try backups, but I'm happy it finally works, and after all the soldering, I haven't ruined my gamecube.
Word to the wise, if you can obtain a nice soldering station ( Like I did after pulling my hair out with the radio crap iron. ) Your hair will thank you. 10 second heat up versus 4 minutes, you do the math, Soldering Station + You = Zero Bald Spots. Cheapo Soldering Iron + You = Gamecube thrown out the window.

Just my opinion!

Also, Thanks for all the files!
P.S.: Those thin fragile ribbon cables are a pain in the groin.
