HD GameCube Mod?

Post by hellokaydoky » Wed Feb 19, 2014 4:38 am

I was wondering if anyone has created a modded GameCube console that can support /run image with HDMI (720p or 1080p). I've played a GameCube emulator on my computer and the image is crystal clear and super sharp, Im not talking about adapters. I know GameCube runs its image at 480i with 60fps, and since i have a 40in flat screen Tv it doesn't look amazing. is it possible to actually mod the Gamecube console so it can support HDMI and run it in HD like my emulator on my flat screen TV. can any one tell me if i'm crazy or if i have to replace a part in my Gamecube or order any mod chips i don't know. Other information is that i'm putting in a Wiikey Fusion mod chip if that makes a difference. (i'm a nood) :D any help would be amazing.

The best currently available is to get yourself a Component cable and run Swiss to force games to 480p/576p.

anything past 576p would simply be an up scaled version. There are plans to add a HDMI/DVI port to the GameCube but nothing has been released as of yet.

upscaling is not the answer..

how can you truly convert a signal from 480p/576p up to 720p or 1080i/p ?
if the signal source is 480/576, then trying to scale or convert will not provide true results and appear as placebo effect with any other signal modifying device...

to put it simple: how would you gain quality by converting a VHS tape to Bluray??

As it was pointed out, that video is running the NTSC release running at native 480p (with a widescreen hack).

Wiikey is a disc drive emulator, meaning it pretends like there is a disc drive with the possibility of running games from an SD card. You are correct about that.

However, it does not mean it alone can make the gamecube output 1080p. The gamecube itself is limited to 480p/576p which means you can not get a higher output unless you can magically install a GTX 1337 Video card which can read gamecube signal (hint, you probably cant) and send it in a readable format to a television or monitor.
