Since the Gamecube only supports a max of Wide-480p, there's not much benefit to going VGA or HDMI unless you need to plug it into a PC monitor.

If you're just looking for the best the GC can look, go for the component cables which, unfortunately, are rare and not cheap. (You'd pretty much need it anyway for one of those mods.) But with the component cable you don't need to mod anything, you just need to find one... which is the hard part it seems.

Also component cables only work on DOL-001.

Try scart. Most PAL games don't natively benefit from component, with 480p disabled if not removed.

^That. Plus SCART is as good as 480i/576i component but much cheaper.

Then SCART is what you are looking for. I have one of these cables and it looks amazing.

He means a real RGB Scart cable. They are just a few Euros on Ebay.

Yeah if you use the adapter, video is still composite.

RGB Scart might help, but it's probably your TV's crappy upscaling at work. Try a CRT TV.

agreed...
CRT is worlds apart from those flatpanel disasters

i was amazed with 480i component which is about the same as 480i RGB...
if anyone has a CRT with RGB input, forget looking for the digital AV component cable....
i would be just as happy with 480i RGB as i would with 480p component....it even looks almost as sharp as 480p....
i said almost....
