SD Media LAuncher problems
SD Media LAuncher problems
Hi, I'm trying to get the latest snesgx, fceugx and Wii64 emulators running from an SD card using SD media loader on a Gamecube.
Basically, the emulator tries to access the dvd drive (when the device lister should come up)and freezes.
I suspect it might be due to the folder structure, with the roms and the executables not in the right places.
Can someone please please upload working installations of these emulators (no roms ofcourse), that I can simply unarchive onto the sd card?
I *think* someone did something similar here but I can't find the post.
Thanks in advance!

Re: SD Media LAuncher problems
What is exactly your issue? Does it freeze when you load the emulator?
Or does it freeze when you actualy are running the emulator?
Or does it freeze when you actualy are running the emulator?

Re: SD Media LAuncher problems
Fceu and snesgx (latest versions) will boot up and immediately try to access the dvd, (and a pop up windows says just that). I can hear the DVD drive being started up and accessed. The lister thats supposed to let you select the roms is behind the pop window. The system then freezes.
Wii64 just says it can't read the rom directory.
I have had success with an old snes9x that i found here somewhere, that AFAI can tell is a seperate work from the latest versions. Which tells me the SD card is OK, and the SDML is ok.

Re: SD Media LAuncher problems
wait a minute wii64 on GAMECUBE?
it's designed for wii you know, you shouldn't use it on a gamecube (unless the author has a gamecube version available...)
and for the other emulators... I don't know, so this is not a SDML problem.

Re: SD Media LAuncher problems
Wii64-the gamecube version is cube64, its a different executable to the Wii64.
I have managed to get older versions working (v 2 of FCEU, version 9 of snesgx and version 1.31 of genplus). They all have menus which let you move through all of the directories to find the roms directory. The newer versions of FCEU, snesgx want to access the DVD drive and freeze there, and the newest versions of cube64 and gensplus give an error about not able to read the roms directory.
I now think theres a compatibilty issue with newer releases of FCEU snesgx and cube64, and even the megadrive emulators and the version of SDML that i have.

Re: SD Media LAuncher problems
I have a SD Media Launcher that I just bought a couple of months ago (because the first one broke
) The newest versions of all the emulators work perfectly fine for me. The problem is probably with your SD card. Also, are you using the SD Media Launcher on a Wii? That could be causing the problems.

There's your answer :pstefcep wrote:Hi, I'm trying to get the latest snesgx, fceugx and Wii64 emulators running from an SD card using SD media loader on a Gamecube.

Re: SD Media LAuncher problems
do you have a xenoGC modchip installed? (I know Tantric's emulators have issues with it).

Re: SD Media LAuncher problems
@emukid_id. No mod chips.
@dragoon. Can you clarify what you mean, I'm trying to run run the gamecube executables of the emulators.
The sd card is a genuine Sandisk 2gb sd (not sdhc). The sdml is being used on a gamecube (purple)
I wonder if was to burn the snes, nes and n64 roms to a mini-dvd and let the emulators access the mini-dvd. Does the dvd have to be formattted a specific way?

Re: SD Media LAuncher problems
Yes I can, safefortheozone asked if you used a wii, and I gave him the answer.
If you try to burn it on dvd, then you will need:
A Ritek mini-dvd (Ritek is the prefered brand) (doesn't have to be mini-dvd but if you don't have a case mod mini-dvd is the best)
the dvd must be -R (some +R brands also work but I don't know)
if you use Ritek it must be G04 or G05 type
and you should burn it not higher then 4x, I prefer to burn my dvd's at 2x (also burn all your discs at the same speed to keep compatibility as high as possible)

Re: SD Media LAuncher problems
Thank you dragoon.
Now in terms of building the iso (note I'm not wanting to build an iso of a gamecube game rip, just want to put the NES SNES N64 and genesis roms on to the dvd drive), do I need to create it with certain software and settings?

Re: SD Media LAuncher problems
I don't know I never used these emulators, try asking some one else or try googling it.

well, this is a forum, se he actually is asking a lot of people, not just you.Dragoon wrote:I don't know I never used these emulators, try asking some one else or try googling it.
stefcep: the tool you're using doesn't really matter (back in the days everybody used nero burning rom, because it was so damn popular) just be sure to burn/master it as an ISO9660 (NO joilet) disc.

Re: SD Media LAuncher problems
Try Imgburn, I think it's best for burning Gamecube ISO's imho.
Just use the write mode of imgburn and burn on 4x~1x speed (1 copy ofcourse :p).
@liquitt What I meant to say whas, sorry I'm not able to help you anymore if it is emulator sided.
