WODE/Audio Streaming

Post by gamecubefan » Mon Aug 15, 2011 12:12 pm

I will be getting a WODE and I am just wondering if there is a full and complete list of all gamecube games with audio streaming problems?

I also have a PAL Wii so to play NTSC games will I need to install something like priiloader for region or will the WODE do this automatically?

I found this list: http://wiki-scene.com/Audio_Fix
Not sure if every game in that list actually streams audio though. You don't need to install Priiloader or any other hack to play NTSC games. WODE is region free.

Yeah I saw that but even that list is being contradicted (leading me to believe there is not actually a list of these games that actually audio stream anywhere). See this post from: http://www.wodejukebox.com/forum/viewto ... 9&start=10

That list you posted shows Eternal Darkness, while the person says that game plays fine. The same deal with Pikmin 2 and some others.

"I tested the rest of my GC games (all ripped by me from original discs). To my surprise, most games that have streaming audio actually work fine. Here are all the games that worked without any audio problems (the streaming audio formats are listed after each title):

Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg [NTSC-U] ADX
Eternal Darkness - Sanity's Requiem [NTSC-U] ADP
Hudson Selection Vol. 2 - Star Soldier [NTSC-J] HPS
Hudson Selection Vol. 4 - Adventure Island [NTSC-J] HPS
Luigi's Mansion [NTSC-U] AFC
Mario Kart Double Dash [NTSC-U] AST
Metroid Prime 2 - Echoes [NTSC-U] DSP
Metroid Prime [NTSC-U] DSP
Mr Driller Drill Land [NTSC-J] DSP
P.N.03 [NTSC-U] unknown stream type
Pikmin 2 [NTSC-U] AST
Pikmin [NTSC-U] STX
Super Monkey Ball 2 [NTSC-U] ADX / ADP/ DSP
Super Smash Bros Melee [NTSC-U] HPS
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker [NTSC-U] AFC
Viewtiful Joe [NTSC-U] SBB
Wario World [NTSC-U] DSP

And here's a list of all the games I tested that had audio problems:

1080 Avalanche [NTSC-U] ADP (music in intro plays but in-game music not playing)
Ikaruga [NTSC-U] ADP (music not working)
Star Fox Adventures [NTSC-U] (voice streams not working during intro)
Super Monkey Ball [NTSC-U] ADP (music streams not working)
Wave Race Blue Storm [NTSC-U] ADP (music only plays in sound test)

So, as you can see, all those stream types in the games that aren't working properly play perfectly in the games that do work properly."

As for my original priiloader question it was just that this thread was confusing me with region questions - http://www.wodejukebox.com/forum/viewto ... c318ceb92e

All that talk about needing less than 4.2 firmware etc. Was this fixed in a WODE update or something?

The average person can't say whether a game really streams audio or not. Eternal Darkness for example is definitelly a _real_ audio streaming game with some sound missing when played with WODE. But even with some sounds missing, a real audio streaming game can be played fine with WODE, meaning there are no other issues than the few missing music streams.

Perhaps emu_kidid can make a complete list of every gc game that uses real audio streaming.

Ah yes, I forgot about this. Nintendo did actually add more region protection to system menu 4.2 and 4.3. But anyway you can always use WODEflow for launching games. WODEflow has a built-in region free hack and support covers, cheats, themes etc. Check this for guides how to set up WODEflow: http://www.wodejukebox.com/forum/viewfo ... 2991fb0d27

Lots of games have the audio streaming bit enabled on the disc but don't actually use it. The second list there sounds more correct.

So I can use either wodeflow or priiloader to accomplish the same task or does priiloader only region free the channels?

Priiloader is a bit famous for bricking Wiis lately, I can't really recommend it if you only want to play NTSC games. WODEflow is an application that doesn't need to be installed at all while Priiloader has to be installed to the NAND. If you are using WODEflow then Priiloader is pretty much useless as WODEflow plays NTSC games fine without installing any region free hacks to the NAND and possibly risk a brick.

I actually bought a Wii with the WODE installed for really cheap so not even sure what the person who owned it previously had installed. Will have a look when I get it.

For anyone wondering, the Wii had 4.3 installed. :(

Still got HBC installe but it does not matter since the WODE has a region patching feature for games. With it disabled my NTSC games would not load but they do with it patched.
