Re: wii Mini
It seems the only thing mini has got going for it is the size. No component cable was a nail in the coffin for me- as if it wasn't missing enough key features.
I wonder how many people will buy this just for the sake of collecting (including myself if I ever buy one:))

Re: wii Mini
Its certainly an odd release from Nintendo especially coming so close to the wii U launch - Still if anyone is still enthusiastic for this console another review is in.

Re: wii Mini
I'm more interested on the draw of this thing and whether it contends for power use with the original Wii.
I would also love a shot with the thermal grease wiped off the CPU so we could tell if the old wii and the mini have the same CPU as well

Re: wii Mini
Also a NAND flash chip swap might bring back some features that Nintendo has since removed. I think it's that 48 pin chip on the bottom of the mini. I can't see any text on it but maybe it's just super light. Can anyone who has a mini see if there is a serial number on there? see if it matches this one from the wii biggie?
Re: wii Mini
Just a couple little notes to add.
S-Video does not work whilst RGB scart does.
AMD logo moulded into the side of the unit as a result of the merger with ATi.
Opera logo is on the underside of the packaging box so along with the wifi card mount point on the main pcb Nintendo intended to have online before backing off.

Re: wii Mini
it looks like the top-side has a slot right smack in the middle that looks kinda like a SD shape (rectangle with a corner clipped). could that be a connector that's just not populated?emu_kidid wrote:If you swap NAND you need to swap the chip with starlet/console unique key too.
Re: wii Mini
20 pin though, I believe that's WiFi, but adding it in won't do anything as it's disabled in the Sys menu.epoch wrote:it looks like the top-side has a slot right smack in the middle that looks kinda like a SD shape (rectangle with a corner clipped). could that be a connector that's just not populated?emu_kidid wrote:If you swap NAND you need to swap the chip with starlet/console unique key too.

Re: wii Mini
That stencil P13 is for a wifi card - look at an image of original wii pcb its the same.epoch wrote:

Re: wii Mini
Also, the Opera logo I believe is still on the box since they may or may not use the Opera web engine for the settings pages on the Wii System menu?

And just to ram home the point it is printed FIVE times on the outer box that the console will not connect to the internet.

Re: wii Mini
Yes, I understand you can't go online - and I have the box too
The Opera software code may be used in the Wii System Menu internally I meant. Like when you navigate the settings in the Wii Menu, it's actually a web server backend with a slim browser. Like remember when you brick a Wii and it comes up with a browser page?

Re: wii Mini
I just read at heise.de (german), that the Wii mini will be released in europe, too.
Re: wii Mini
£80 @amazon UK March 22.
If it was £50 with a viable way of using Devolution GC loader then it would be worth it.

Re: wii Mini
If there is an unpopulated SD card slot on the board, you may be able to use Smash Stack even if the system menu doesn't support SD cards.emu_kidid wrote:epoch wrote:emu_kidid wrote:20 pin though, I believe that's WiFi, but adding it in won't do anything as it's disabled in the Sys menu.
Re: wii Mini
I don't think there is an unpopulated SD card slot (looks like an unpopulated WLAN area, but that's disabled in the sys menu), but if you can trace the pinout from a regular mainboard as to where it's meant to go and rebuild the circuit, then by all means, give it a shot
Damn, now I'm going to have to buy the European version too.

Re: wii Mini
Isn't is easier to hardmod a normal Wii to fit in a Wii mini case?
