swiss hangs on "init WiiKey Fusion"

Post by ArcadeTV » Sun Apr 21, 2013 10:37 pm

I found quite a handful of people with the same problem, but I can't seem to be able to get it done so I need to ask...

Setup:
PAL DOL-001 with WiiKey Fusion as DVD-Drive-Replacement (No drive at all)
WiiKeyFusion FW: 1.5
Tested swiss revisions: 174, 214
WiiKeyFusion Installation in working order.

Short Story:
I want to flash swiss to the WiiKeyFusion but I can't get past the first screen "init WiiKey Fusion".

My procedure as follows:
-used wbfs Manager 4.0 to copy EmuCR-Swiss-r214\WiikeyFusion\SwissFlasher.iso to wbfs-formatted sd-card
-loaded the image from the WiiKey Fusion's selection screen

Long Story:
I really like the Wiikey Fusion - except one thing... and that's its miserable region-free ability on Gamecube. Many of the games I tried didn't work as foreign-region versions on my PAL console - all PAL games I tried worked out-of-the-box. I used an Action Replay back in the days to play US Games on my console, so I gave it a shot and loaded an AR Isofile with the WKFusion. I loads ok, but as soon as I enter ther "Freeloader"-Option and open the lid the screen goes black and that's it.
(I posted about the AR/Freeloader-problem over at modretro-forums: http://forums.modretro.com/viewtopic.ph ... 53#p147053)
So here I am, hoping to become a happy swiss-user.
Right now I can't seem to be able to locate where the problem resides... I know swiss expects a FAT32-filesystem on the SD-card, but I have to boot it on the wbfs-formatted card...
Am I stuck?

Thanks for all your great work guys, keep it up.

swiss can only read FAT/FAT32 formatted cards...
dont let swiss start up with a WBFS card in the slot

for video region try this: viewtopic.php?p=17461#p17461

Hmm...
But I have no other choice, or do I?
I mean the WKF only reads wbfs... swiss can only operate in Fat32...
I don't get it, sorry. Or am I missing a method to load swiss otherwise than using the wiikey's bootmenu?
Thanks though!

Edit:
Thanks for the link, but I'm not having video issues. I use rgb scart and my tv handles pal-60 correctly.
It's the wkf that doesn't boot (many, not all) usa or jap games on my pal console.

After loading your swiss iso from your wbfs card, you can swap in a fat32 card after the gc reboots. It'll take a few tries to get it right.

Thank you, Ashen.
See, I placed the wkf and the cardreader INSIDE the gamecube under the lid, so that it's seemless.
If I open the lid to swap cards the chip will know that the lid is open...
When exactly do you say is the right time to swap? When I select swiss from the wbfs bootmenu and the cube reboots I can't open the lid or the iso isn't mounted any more. when I wait till swiss is loaded it seems to be too late for a swap.

should i just get an usb gecko?
is it ok to have both the wkf reader and the gecko loaded with an sd card?

thanks again!

Take the top off and tape your lidswitch closed/down till you get it setup. After you boot swiss from your wbfs card, the gc will reboot, the wiikey will flash the blue led when it loads the iso, swap directly after that. You have to be very quick or it wont work.

I dont think a usb gecko would help you. What you're probably thinking of is an sd gecko, which wont really help you here either. SD Gecko's are priceless though. If you dont have one, i'd recommend getting one.

Damn, I knew it would have been a good idea to add an override-switch in the first place...
I'll try it and report back, Thanks!

The right timing did the trick!
It worked!
Now I flashed swiss as initial iso. THANK YOU!

I installed another switch to permanently close the connection of the lid-switch, so I can now open the lid to swap cards and the chip won't know that it was opened :-)

A few quick questions, then I'm done:
-Can I boot the WiiKeyFusion-Menu from swiss, just in case if I ever wanted to do so?
-Can Swiss handle scrubbed ISOs?
-I've read that multi-disk-loading on the WiiKeyFusion is still in development, is that still true?

Thanks guys,
I appreciate your help and I'm now going to explore the new possibilities in Swiss. :D
