seems like sometime i can play a backup on a dics for long time and other about ten min then it says something has happend please restart your system, using a xeno chip. thanks in advance

Are all of your discs the same? Same box, same burner, same settings? If so, I would blame the inconsistency on your burner. Also some games put a much tougher load on the drive which might cause it to DRE quicker.

Cleaning the lense. Q-Tip and 99% isopropyl rubbing alcohol is the best. It works 100% of the time for me. It will take a few spin up's to dry all the way even after using the dry side of the swab

I've bought a ton of gamecubes with disk read issues and chipped a lot of systems. That solution has worked every single time with the exception of one that had a bad laser - wouldn't even read original disks.

1st thing I did before even plugging it in. Also did a pot tweak after chipping it ad it couldn't read back ups. It could and still can read originals fine

Can we see your solder work? Might have a dying laser. What was the potentiometer set to when you got it and what did you set it to?

She's all back together but solder is good as I've done lots and lots.. wanna say it was 400 ish went down to 120 ish

Nice work there, looks pretty clean. I prefer and recommend the wire install, less of a chance of shorts.
I would also recommend pot at around 180, 150 minimum but I've read on here about one guy saying 80 was the only setting that worked for him.
I've had the same problem you currently have, both multimeters I own couldn't pick up any short and all the leads tested fine. Resoldered and it worked so that's worth a shot although your soldering looks on point

You really need a better burner. We already know your burner does not produce good burns so until you aquire one, no advice we give you will help.

It won't really improve much to be honest but it's worth a shot. As Streetwalker already mentioned some games will put more stress on the disc drive by wanting to seek across large areas quickly and perform small reads, this can cause the laser to have to momentarily lose focus and then it can all go to crap from there.

That being said the XenoGC does have some read-retry functionality built in, if you're still getting read errors the medium/burner you're using is probably not that great. If it's always occurring at the same spot in a game I'd recommend making sure your game dumps are verified good dumps (check hashes against redump.org).

Your soldering would have nothing to do with it because the Xeno isn't even required once the drive code has been uploaded at boot time (unless if you open/close the lid and the drive resets itself), so even if you had an intermittent connection as long as it can patch the drive you're fine.
